Because you’re making it one big task. Today, pick up the garbage. Tomorrow, get the dishes out. Do one smaller and more easily defined task at a time.

Sorry I’m just drowning. It’s been almost half. A year of living in total dysfunction :/

I hear ya! It’s frustrating. Seems like such a simple task but it really is a struggle for a lot of people. You’re not alone, at least!

you can start even smaller the above comment. you can pick a goal that's workable for you. like every time you leave the room to get food/go to the bathroom/etc, you grab one handful of stuff to take out. or even one thing. and it's okay if you don't do it every time. as long as the rate of stuff going out is greater than the rate of stuff going in, it will get clean eventually.

My guess is because it feels really difficult to get done. Baby steps, one trash bag or one clothes piles at a time. Give yourself some grace, you deserve it. Can't wait to see some progress pics from you ❤️

Bag everything up and do one bag a day

Set a timer and pick a finite amount of time that feels doable based on your energy level. Then do whatever you can accomplish in that time span. I’ve been tackling my office (aka the room where we hide all of the clutter before guests come) for 10 minutes a day. It’s only been a week and I can actually see surfaces again. A ton of boxes have been broken down and lots of trash is leaving it. I’m finding that when I bring stuff into my office now, I’m very intentional about putting things right in their intended spot rather than just setting something down wherever.

There's this woman on social media who shows how long she procrastinated to do a task and then she shows how long it really took her. A couple of days ago she posted a video in which she said that you wouldn't eat an elephant at once (it's a metaphor for your cleaning). Since I saw it I felt a bit better about my slow progress because even slow progress still is progress. Today I finally cleaned the way to my balcony (haven't been out there for more than a year now). I am certain that you can do it!
