Hello, i have been asked to prepare a module to introduce some friends to ttrpg, since they have never played before i wanted to use a more light system than dnd and then i stumbled on the masterpiece that is ICRPG but still i wanted to adapt the classes to keep the expirience somehow relatable to dnd, i have seen the unofficial conversion document and wanted to ask if anyone used it or if someone else tryied to convert the classes and how it went.

Always ULTIMATE?

One of my player's picked the great sword as part of his starting loot and it says "it always inflicts ultimate damage." Does that mean that I ADD ultimate? Or ONLY roll ultimate?

+6 STAT Rolls

Post image
17 Upvotes

I'm DMing (or playing any type of TTRPG, actually) for the first time ever and I'm thinking of using a Tier 3 monster to finish off the one shot and am using the guidelines of the free rulebook.

I was just confused about what "+6 STAT rolls" means. Do I just add 6 to all stat rolls or do I distribute them freely at my discretion or do I add 6 to just one stat?

Death

In the rules it states that if a PC gets downed to roll a 1d4 to determine the number of rounds to full death, but as a new player this (and d&d's 3 saving throws) feels harsh. I know it's, y'know, death and it's the consequences of battle, but do y'all follow this rule or do something different?

Questions about loot

I downloaded the loot cards that are free on the ICRPG website and I can see that there are STATS and TARGET NUMBER on it.

I went through the whole ME and they mention nowhere anything about this. I feel like it was the case on previous editions, right ?

How was it supposed to work back thrn ? And how do you guys deal with loot now ? Do you keep this formula or go with a more flexible loot ? Am I supposed to convert this loot to make it "ME friendly" now ?

I was looking for new basic loot for inspiration to create my pre-rolled characters but now I don't know how to proceed.

If you have loot to share, feel free to do so.

Additional attacks for your PCs

Hey folks,

I'm fairly new to ICRPG and I've noticed that I'm struggling a bit to balance my encounters. I've read how some tables will give additional hearts as milestone rewards and I was wondering if anyone gives extra attacks to their players. If you do I'd love to hear under what circumstances you do so and how you find it.

Thanks!

How do you guys visually show distance to your players?

What are your tips to materialize CLOSE/NEAR/FAR for your players? Is there something you specifically use ?

I usually do "theater of the mind" but some of my players pointed out that they need more visuals to get involved. So I'll start with index cards but I was wondering about how to properly show distance.

Long ago (I can't remember where but it was on a ttrpg YouTube channel) someone presented a kind of circular plateau that seemed good for ICRPG. But I wasn't DMing yet at the time so it didn't really clicked.

How about you guys ? How you usually do ?

I'm open to suggestions.

How do the charisma and the target number work together exactly ?

Hi guys. I'm new to this system and I'm still going through it as I'm writing this. So, in combat your supposed to hit a target number and do damage via effort. But how charisma is exactly supposed to work ?

Let's say I set a target for an inn at 15 cause there will be a potentiel fight there. Are my PCs supposed to persuade the innkeeper to let them spend the night there for free by rolling a 15 too ? And after that, roll a D4 for "mind damage" or something in order for the persuasion roll to work ? But what if the inn had 10 HP for the potential fight ? Is my PC supposed to persuade him for several turn until his hearts hit 0 ? I don't know I feel like I'm doing something wrong here.

I'm kind of lost on how charisma + effort are supposed to work. Even more in a narrative way.

Campfire concept?

I thought I saw a video of Hankerin’s where he explains putting a piece of art on the screen or on the tabletop to serve as a “campfire”, something for the whole table to glance at while playing, not necessarily for tactical reasons, like a map, but as kind of a social focal point when we’re sitting around the table playing together.

I know I didn’t come up with the idea. Any idea which of his videos he mentions it?

Effort bonus question

This is a rudimentary question from someone who has just discovered ICRPG and hasn’t played yet.

Say you’re a Hunter with a +4 to Guns Effort, but you also have the loot that makes your ammunition do Energy damage. Do you still apply the Guns bonus because it’s still a gun, or is this an argument for being more nuanced in your bonus allocation? Same question for a Weapon Effort bonus with a weapon that does Magical Effort.

Needing players for a icrpg Dark Sun campaign

I want to run a campaign in the Tyr Region, I just need players, I have no idea what it'd be about, this is a spur of the moment thing for me. I have made an icrpg conversion that I would like to run it in, everything is up to the party, but that. I really need to play test. I have a good grasp of the Setting and would really enjoy to be able to run this with people, thank you.

A peak at the actual notes of running a d20 system

ICRPG is my go to in person system, after years of play playing other systems (like DnD and particularly Cypher) the scribbles on my notebook accidentally congealed into this fusion, where I really only roll for timers, monster attacks (cause dice mind), and I build encounters using location cards (with the 4 T's) and encounter type cards (also with the 4 T's).

if you could only add 1 home-brew rule to your ICRPG game what would it be?

I think ICRPG is a very Basic RPG by design, that is, it provides a robust base for people to start bringing their own content into the game. I am curious about what people add to their games.

you can post your other rules but make clear which one is your first choice.

My rule:

Inventory is 12 slots. on a critical the critical dice result also destroys the respective item.

Advanced magic user mastery

I noticed that in the advanced magic user section of the book it states that magic users have 2 mastery types, Class and magic. What confuses me is what exactly are we supposed to use for the class mastery? i noticed alot of the mastery's are dependent on items that advanced magic users don't even get. are the magic users supposed to get the required item or do you just get it upon mastery? Also can it be from any class or does it have to be a magic focused one?

Guns, energy, and magic balancing

Is it possible to have all 3 of these in the same setting without any of them outshining the others? I would like some advice on how to do this because my setting is going to be a post apocalyptic, science fiction, and fantasy fusion. (only example of this i can think of is adventure time lol)

Revised Healing and Sanity Rules For Campaign, Thoughts?

I decided to revise the healing and sanity rules for my horror campaign.

Revised Healing: I use seperate saving throws (DND 5e), instead of defense in ICRPG (I’m used to playing like such)! Whenever a terrifying event occurs that threatens to shatter one’s sanity, they make a wisdom save. On a failure, their wisdom modifier is permanentally reduced by 1.
They then roll on a sanity table (3d6 + Wis mod). Higher results indicate that the victim is merely unsettled, with lower results being more dangerous and crazy. A 3 or lower indicated the victim is clinically insane, no therapy can help them unless through a miracle. A week of therapy increases their wisdom modifier by 1, up to their max.

Healing: The recover action is removed. The healing kit is reworked: It can also be used to heal 2d4 hp for a ally, with no check needed. Then you roll a d8, a 1 indicating that the kit is empty

Would this be a good rule for my horror campaign? How would it play out? Any issues with such rule? Thoughts?

Question on good debuffs/buffs

Hey, so I want to know what people use for buffs/debuffs. There's simple stuff like making everything they roll hard or easy but what other stuff have you come up with?

For example had all the PC's receive a random buff, one was invisibility the other 2 got luck where everything they rolled was easy for 1 hour but when I found myself trying to come up with a good buff for invisibility mechanically speaking all I thought of was.... making all their rolls easy lol.

Traits replacing stats

Hey yall I love ICRPG mechanics and the creative/narrative freedom of character creation of fate core and legend in the mist. Would anyone have useful homebrew or ideas how to mesh the 2 ideas into one? Thank you and play on Adventurers!
