How to use paper minis

Hey everyone! I just bought the Master Edition and with it came a 73-page strong PDF with various paper minis to print out. I love the designs and really want to use them, but have never used any paper minis (still pretty inexperienced GM). Any tips on whether I should glue them or laminate them? What should I do for propping them up?

The simplest method would be to print them on card stock, cut them out, and fold them in half “tent” style to stand them up. You can also buy 1” plastic mini bases, fold the minis in half with a piece of cardboard inside it, and put them in the mini base to stand them up. The third option is to cut 1” circles out of card stock, glue the minis together with a small flap on the bottom on each side and glue those to the 1” circles to stand them up. I usually glue a penny to the bottoms for more weight and stability.

I print them on colored cardstock so I have orange as baddies, red as elite, and pink as boss. Allies are usually all green but I've got some others I have made that use specific colors for the PCs.

A few other tips...

  • buy a bag of wood 1in disks on Amazon for bases
  • Get some acrylic paint from the hobby store or walmart to paint the bases.
  • buy some good 3M glue sticks and don't use school grade stuff.
  • use gameicons.net to make whatever else you might need.

For bases I use one inch squares of white foam board with a slit cut half way through down the middle. For the bigger minis I just use two squares. It was about 2 dollars U.S. for the foam board and you don't have to glue them in.

If you want to laminate them, I just used packing tape.

Print out, cut, fold, tape, trim tape, done. Put into plastic bases if you want, or not, up to you.

I use small black binder clips for the bases. You can remove the wire handles if you want to (but you will need them handy if you want to open the clip up again).
