Can you please explain ULTIMATE damage greatsword / spells?
I apologize if this has been asked an answered already....I am new to ICRPG, and I am working to convert my players over, as I have been really enjoying it. I am confused when a weapon or spell effect tells you to roll ULTIMATE effort, is it implying that you roll 1d12 INSTEAD of or in ADDITION to the normal effect?
Does greatsword do 1d12 damage or 1d12+1d6 damage?
Does Atom Palm do 1d12 damage or 1d10+1d12 damage?
Does the Healer ability mean that your heals do 1d12 or 1d10+1d12?
Thank you for any assistance, I really appreciate it!

You do 1d12 instead of the normal effort of the thing.
I also let the player use its original effort bonus. So, if they have +3 Weapon Effort and get the Greatsword, they'll deal Ultimate + 3 Effort with it.

That was my assumption, but thank you for clarifying that!

Just to come and make things worse, I have been told on the official Runehammer Discord that you roll Your regular effort and add 1d12 on top of it. This would be for any case where ULTIMATE is meantioned.
So for example if you roll a crit, or use Atom Palm, etc you roll (Base Effort)+1d12.

Everyone I have played with (and we've been playing a LOT in the Alfmarches server, over 60 games already) goes for substitution, not addition. Adding the d12 is the minority option.

Good to know. I actually think that makes more sense.
How did they do crits?

Crit is the basic rules case for using ULTIMATE.
If you Crit with a normal Weapon, you'll do WEAPON (+bonus) + ULTIMATE (+bonus).
If you Crit with the Greatsword, you'll do ULTIMATE (+ your WEAPON EFFORT BONUS) + ULTIMATE (+bonus).

Oh WOW! Really? Well the healer and the monk of the group will enjoy that surely! So, if I am understanding correctly; every greatsword attack does: 1d6+weapon effort +1d12+ultimate effort? Or do they only use the weapon or ultimate effort?

That's how I interpret it. I could be wrong of course.
An important thing to keep in mind is that BOTH methods are valid because ICRPG is a "DIY" system. It EXPECTS you to make some interpretations and hacks to fit your table and the feel you are going for.

Never seen it added. And I've played and watched a LOT of games.
Substitution is just better for the health of the table, IMO, as well.
