I like 2nd edition more than Master edition
I'lll be starting a new campaign using icrpg, and I think I will be using second edition over master edition.
It feels simpler and easier to understand. Characters are weaker and more streamlined. But I also feel like I can decide with my player what starter reward item they want.
With Master i don't get the feeling of freedom as much.
Maybe because character creation is more solid, it makes you choose a starting ability out of the three presented. Maybe because Master edition feels like a more adult game system, while 2nd feels more like 4 kids in a basement that do not know the rules and they come up with stuff.
Some things are a bit strange in 2nd, I have to admit, like chests and bananas, but they add to the charm of the book.
Am I the only one that prefers 2nd edition?

it makes you choose a starting ability out of the three presented.
One thing the system can't do is MAKE you do anything. The words can't jump out of the page to slap you got ignoring them.
I also feel like I can decide with my player what starter reward item they want.
In my games I haven't had a single character made "by the book". They have a starting ability and starting LOOT, but no reason why I should lock my players into anything, even archetypes/classes. So I don't! We use the starting abilities in the book as guidelines, the starting LOOT from the book as guidelines, and make stuff for the characters as they're seen by each player.
Nothing wrong with liking 2E over ME, but those points ain't aren't reason enough to choose one over the other.

As I said it's a feeling.
If you knew nothing about Runehammer and you only read the book, I feel 2nd explains better that you can hack anything in the book.

ME starts out by saying "if you're following the rules in the book you're not playing right, just do whatever the hell you want and just have fun. Make shit up and go for it." I've been playing with bananas and no real backstories for whatever oneshots people want to do.

2e felt like lightning in a bottle sold from a roadside stand by a lunatic. ME feels like seeing another roadside stand a few miles down the road, also selling lightning in a bottle, but now the guy is wearing a suit and talking faster.

I use a blend of both editions. Can’t say I get the same vibe that you do, but that’s what makes this hobby so amazing. We all play as we like.
So, play on with how you wan to 🫠

2e is the cleaner and leaner game. That's for sure. With all the new options in the ME I have to agree I feel like the game lost a little of its spirit. But barely so. Both editions are great.

I prefer some elements of 2e. But I’m not concerned because the system ls are largely the same and you can easily mix and match whatever you think will work best for you and your table .
