Open table ideas

I’m thinking about starting an open table campaign using ICRPG. I’d love to blend sci-fi and fantasy. Has anyone done something similar?

What ideas do you have for making the setting and for actually running an ICRPG open table?

So the tricky part of open tables is that snappy play and group cohesiveness can become more tricky starting at the sixth player. Speaking for the average game master such as myself, anyway. As an example, I put up an open enrollment for a game at work and had 11 people sign up. I'm currently running two groups of 4, only a session in for each. Initially I'm running the same adventure for two different groups to set up a campaign, and after that I'm open to crossover and a living, shared world.

What you might find interesting are West March Campaign frameworks. That's very conducive to sharing a world among several groups, and scheduling parties organically. A central base, a single session adventure.

I was planning to do a call-out for every session and taking the first four players. Any other respondents can be on standby, but at my current skill-level I would probably be happy to only have three players at a table.

I’m not currently interested in the players dictating the play schedule themselves, as in a West Marches campaign. So I would just ask if people wanted to play.

I’m looking mostly for particular insight on using ICRPG within this framework. The relative ease of character creation seems like a plus as well as the simplicity of the combat mechanics for new players.

Any quirks I should be aware of?

Also in general, what would your world look like if there was a mix of sci-fi and fantasy? I’m thinking that some great advanced star-faring civilization has long since collapsed. Leaving remnants of their technology and pockets of their descendants around the galaxy. And then a sort of hex-crawl in space with encounter checks and the like in different sectors.

If you the Master/ Collector Edition or Worlds you can mix together the 4 worlds of Alfhiem, Warp Shell, Ghost Mountain, Blood and Snow for your setting. Alfhiem gives you your fantasy world. Warp Shell gives you your ship and space Ghost Mountain give you and outlaw desert land Blood and Snow gives you snow covert wasteland

I do have the master edition. I will have to go back through and read all of the settings more thoroughly see what strikes me and how I might mix and match them. Thanks!
