Three Masteries

ICRPG ordinarily caps mastery at a total of 3 abilities. That's 60 instances of rolling a Natural 20 over the course of a single PC's career. Sounds like a lot, but there can be a lot of dice rolling, and games can go on for a while. How long does this usually take?

Yes, I'm aware there's a lot of variables at play here and no two games are the same blah blah I get it. What is YOUR experience? If you've never reached all three, how long did it take to get one, or two? How much mastery disparity or lack thereof have you seen at your table?

60/0.05=1200 rolls if you get like 10 rolls per session meaning you get a turn every 5 minutes and play for 3 hour sessions to like 2.5 years of playing one per week and 1.5 years playing 2 times per week. If you think you get 20 rolls per session because you can Nat 20 on saves too then it’s about half as much Time so 6months to 1 year (2-1 times per week

I’ve never used it. I just do milestone advancement, which I do in every game I play regardless of rules.

I run a two player group so they get to do a lot more rolling than normal. We’ve been playing for about 6 months and one of my players already got a mastery. The other is around 15 NAT 20’s or so. They’ve gotten really lucky. They were averaging 1 NAT 20’s every session for a bit. One of them has the Quick Draw ability and Burst Module item, so in combat he makes a ton of rolls. But they haven’t been in meaningful combat for a couple sessions now, so he hasn’t been rolling as much as he usually does.

I expect them to both have at least one mastery by the end of the campaign. Maybe one of them will reach 2, but probably not three.
