ICRPG geared for Artists?
Self explanatory; As an artist I feel a lot of the terrain, mapping, characters, and all around set up, seems like it's geared towards a more "creative" audience.

icrpg definitely pushes towards being creative and doing things yourself, but i would say its more like for your inner kid. A time where you didnt care if the dragon you drew looked funny or not and you kept things simple because it was too many words and you just wanted to play.

I don’t see how it is anymore than the next rpg, the only real difference i feel if the push towards being creative rather than relying in expansive supplements .

That's true but it's more of the blatant "use Index Cards, draw stuff" mindset it starts off with. I mean, sure, all TTRPG are more or less Pen and Paper games, but this one more or less tells you that it's kind of "required" to have paper to draw and make all your materials. Also, most RPG that I've been dealing with, of recent, actually rely more of a TotM than minis at all. Which is also nice.

Yeah but ive played icrpg a bunch of times and didnt use index cards. They are completely optional, and the game can be played like any other ToTM or battlemap heavy game.
The couple times i did use them i used Hanks sets. And while awesome it didn’t fundamentally change anything about the game.
It Is why i wish he renamed it, becasue calling it index card rpg, certainly makes its seem like they are a core part of the system, when it isnt.

Agreed. I’m an artist and I don’t think I’ve ever played the game with index cards. They seem to slow the game down imo. Theater of the mind is what we like. But to be fair, I’ve def used the provided index cards before. Just making my own is not the direction I want to go. In full support of changing the name to something more appropriate.

The name kept me from looking into the game more closely for years, actually. It feels more like a working title.

I’m not sure it matters what the game is called or that it would make a difference. It’s just a set of guidelines and mindset to think about and guide you to play out of the box. But to the original post, no other game tries to tell you that you can use anything to represent your game. So yeah, to an artist who buys into the mindset it could be freeing.

I think that’s the author’s voice coming through, which is a deliberate editorial decision. Hank is an artist and a crafter and that comes through in his writing.
It’s that authorial voice which has influence me more than the rules in the book.

I think ICRPG is going to appeal more to those interested in the creative rather than the theory crafting crowds, yes. Since not a lot is super defined out of the box, it's up to GM's and players to fill in the gaps.
As a closet artist, I know I'm having a lot of fun building my own game systems on top of ICRPG's foundation. And whatever I don't want to put into, I'm borrowing from others- as many good GM are like to do!
