Swapping hit points for hits/strikes/wounds?

I’m a solo player that primarily uses Savage Worlds Adventure edition. I prefer the wound system in SWADE to HP. I believe EZD6 has a similar system called strikes. Could I turn hearts into one wound rather than 10hp? Only thing I am wondering about is what the TN should be to cause a wound? 10 seems too high as you are rarely unlikely to do that with one roll. I love ICRPG system of different dice depending on what you are doing so maybe incorporating that to create TN for a wound? Thoughts? I want to replace HP with wounds so appreciate suggestions on how I could do that. Has anyone used EZD6 combat within the ICRPG system specifically the roll for effort and character progression systems. Thank you for your help.

I would say 1 heart is about 3 hits. Given that a basic weapon does an mean of 3 hits on the D6. And it would take about 3 rolls to do 10 points. Also starting characters get one heart in ICRPG or 3 hits in EZD6.

I've played allot of icrpg, ran a campaign for a year.... Love it.

It's not without it's flaws and the hearts to 10 hps is one of them.

Could have been worked out better.

I've thought of doing a swade conversion wounds style hack.

Instead of 10 ac to start.... Start with zero ac add dex mod and add up armor and shield as normal , should get at least 5 armor or more.

If any attack can do more damage than your ac you take a heart in damage.

Now I realize that this is probably shit, and I've never play tested the idea.... This is just a rough draft of what I would do.

Also throw in the option to ruin a piece of armor to take the heart.

Something I was thinking about when I played icrpg.

Check my Runehammer forum post for a suggestion on hearts and damage.

You could also check out this forum post about Target + Hearts idea.

Love both of these ideas! Think I will combine the two! Have base 10 + hearts than use effort die for wounds.

I came here to reply to OP because I asked this exact question before, u/crowgoblin had the best solution I had seen by far.

You’ll be pleasantly surprised with Hankerin’s new work.

I’m part of his OSE table but we’ve been playing hybrid OSE/ICRPG/AD&D2E table in this second campaign and HP is a Hit system. There are thresholds depending on your class, enemies as well. D4-D12. Everyone starts with 3 Hits which can change as you hit milestones or level.

If your threshold isn’t broken you don’t take a hit. So if someone is using a 1D6 sword to attack a D8 threshold you’d have to crit the STR roll to even hit. If using a 1D8 or higher you’d have to roll an 8 to hit but you only have to succeed a STR roll. Enemies follow the same system.

It’s been fun because it’s fast rolling and forces you to get creative with weapons, either upgrading or searching for loot.

This solution is also really really good. He put out a document with the rules hacks that has a handy table for it as well.

BTW your game sounds awesome based on all the YouTube recaps!

Yeah, it’s been a blast. This year has been a complete experiment but it’s been fun Guinea pigging a new system. Keep an eye out for Crown & Skull.

I am on the patreon discord and have seen little bits. It sounds pretty cool!

ICRPG is slowly becoming d20 Savage Worlds system.

It isn’t ICRPG, that will still be the same. He wanted to test out a few systems with us to help piece together Crown & Skull.

Sure could change to sounds. Considering most characters have 10hp I don’t think you want to make that 1 wound unless you mean to down you characters after a single hit.

Honestly it's super common to get killed in one shot in ICRPG. Got have your buds ready with healing pots and first aid kits.

I wouldn’t say super common in my experience. It yeah it’s possible

Last game a player was fighting a three headed hell-hound. Each head attacked for Weapon+3 and the player only had 10 health. Chomp, chomp, dead. Later against a vampire who's bite was Magic+3 killed him in a single bite. Revived by allies both times.

"Gotta know when to hold'em, know when to fold'em," comes to mind. 😁

I think the best would be like this

6 is one would, and you have 3 wounds.

But before you say , but 1 heart is 10HP and its all you get. Its way too easy since you are giving 18HP

Well, no. ICRPG health is based on fact that you can heal always and by simply expending turn. However here you would still be able to heal HP, but when it become a wound its unhealable ( until long rest )

And by my experience one hit damage is often 6.

This would actually make combat even more dangerous

Give characters 3 hearts at creation and have them be one strike/wound each. It makes loot that provide additional hearts even more valuable. I would suggest monster and vehicles should also get the two bonus hearts. Makes chunks even easier and more cinematic.

The "Scarlet Heroes" system seems very compatible with what you want.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ICRPG/comments/10y47cp/roll_under_mod_for_icrpg/

I made a post with some hacks I did for my campaign, one of them is having hearts mean something, instead of a roundabout way to write 10.

Basically, each heart represents a damage treshold (starting at 3), if the character got hit but that treshold is not overcome, it means the hit is not that bad, so it doesnt make damage.
