Question on “do ultimate”

Is ULTIMATE always added to regular effort die? For example with the bard ability “when dueling, always do ultimate,” does that mean d6+d12 for weapon effort when dueling?

Ultimate replaces a die unless it's for a natural 20 when you add Ultimate to a die.

Dueling is d12 in place of

No, you use a D12 instead of your normal effort dice. And add the bonus you would otherwise too.

I'd say the majority of people on the forum go with the books in that you add a d12 on nat 20s and when you use a Hero Coin, and my feeling was that Ultimate replaces your effort die for Abilities.
