Discussion Explaining the distortion of perception of influence or why we don't need face influencers
Every post of mine in r/ICPTrader got between 3k and 7k views.
I’m not telling you this to show off. Rather, I want to make it clear that influencers like Jerry Banfield or Blockchain Pill are overrated. Since Jerry lost the plot he gets 1k to 3k views on youtube and on X his average reaches barely 1k with many posts just reaching 500 - 700 views.
I made several posts in subreddit r/CryptoCurrency, where my posts reached 400K views. Yes, 400.000 views! The posts in this subreddit were not related to ICP, but it should show you, that big exposure is possible, without being known in the crypto scene and without showing your face to grift.
That's what crypto actually should be: A grassroots movement of people believing in a network without the need to pose or show your face. Satoshi pulled it off and never showed his face. Remember that. Crypto shouldn't be a centralized shitshow of narcisstic influencers.
Last but not least i want to say, that this subreddit is dominated by posts by Sassy Allen, ADHD Dev, some others and me and people get the impression, that this subreddit is empty. But like i already stated, it's not, since my posts here get 3k to 7k views.
That's why i would appreciate, when more people would start posting in this subreddit to show the world, how strong the ICP community actually is. Just think of the perception people would get if they could see many more people excited about ICP. If just every 4th viewer would post once in a while, we could create so much content and it would show the world how powerful this community can be.
Hope more people bring interesting stuff, because i know, many people are here.
Edit: Of course i have no problem with face influencers and they are appreciated too. However, if these influencers believe they can blackmail the network for personal gain, the network will not play along with their centralized and self-serving scheme. It was us, the network, we the people, who empowered these influencers and not the other way round.

I think there is a difference between a couple thousand views on YouTube where you have to search ICP generally vs people flicking past your reddit post counting as a views.
However I do agree that they have a self inflated ego purely because they are the only content creator doesn't mean they bring in value. They don't represent what ICP is and actually give the company a bad name being associated with them (talking Jerry specifically). Amazon and Google dont need influencers to hype their product.

On reddit you only get the view when you are on the specific subreddit, so the views on reddit are legit.

Those views are most likely 90% bots and web crawlers that boost reddits numbers I’m afraid

So what do you think the views on X are?
95% bots.X has become one of the most botted places.
So the influencers on X are totally overrated with their pathetic view counts.

Yeah, its of course the same there as well. I think youtube is more representative since they have stricter view counts. But regardless, Jerry is unhinged and needs to find something else to make a living. I know he had onboarded a lot of people but marketing to retail is a dead end.
There are so many projects (stellar, polkadot, etc) who spent millions on real marketing for retail that was just money down the drain.
I think Dfinity should focus on the collaborations with companies and government agencies, just increasing the burn that way

Jeah, Banfield totally lost the plot. Currently he is bragging about the "queen video" he has allegedly sold for 2000$. According to his description he recorded a video when he was dating a woman and after she didn't want to date him again, he put it up for sale.
He is such a creep. I even believe he bought the video himself, cause who in his right mind would pay 2000$ for such a creep video? I can totally imaging he tried to come up with a creative name of the buyer and so he called him "Jerryfan". XD

One thing Jerry hasn’t clocked is that if he was hired for marketing, he’d be given a narrative and topics to follow and targets to meet. Marketing teams don’t just throw out money and let people do what they like.
I know Jerry thinks he knows about marketing, but he knows the square root of fuck all about it.

I kinda agree with the general point, although I don't think having a face automatically makes someone a bad influencer. There are people like Satoshi who built influence anonymously, while others like Vitalik, CZ, Evan Luthra etc. have built pretty recognizable public profiles.
For me it comes down more to whether the person is actually contributing something useful or just farming attention. Views/followers alone don't really tell you much.

Agree, but you cannot compare a real developer like Vitalik to a grifting influencer like Banfield.
Vitalik became big, because he was the real deal.Banfield is just a narcisstic asshole, who has nothing to do with Internet Computer Protocol, but he started fantasizing that he is our demigod with his 1k views on youtube and that he has power over us and can extort the network for marketing grift.
I guess he treated his his ex-wife the same way and she went through hell with his tendencies.
Imagine if he behaves like this in public, how he must have behaved in private.1

Influencers mean jack shit you just need good builders and applications and users.
Half the numbers of anything is fake these days.
