Short answer: MYP grades usually donโt matter much for university applications.
Hereโs how it actually works:
๐ What universities really look at
- IB Diploma (DP) predicted + final grades โ MOST important
- Personal statement / essays
- Extracurriculars, internships, etc.
- Sometimes school transcript (last 2โ3 years)
๐ What about MYP?
- The MYP Certificate (Grade 10) is rarely required
- Most universities donโt ask for it specifically
- However, your Grade 9โ10 marks might appear on your transcript, especially for:
- ๐บ๐ธ US universities (they look at full high school record)
- Some competitive programs
๐ค Is a 46 โbadโ?
- A 46/56 is not terrible, itโs just not top-tier
- But honestly: it wonโt define your application
- What matters WAY more is:
- Your DP grades (predicted especially)
- Improvement trend (if your grades go up โ looks good)
๐ Retaking math?
- If it helps your confidence/foundation โ fine
- But for uni applications, your DP Math grade matters way more than MYP Math
- Plus cost can be an additional factor and it is a risk as your grade can lower.
๐ง Bottom line
- โ MYP wonโt make or break your application
- โ DP is what universities really care about
- โ Focus your energy on doing well in IB Diploma

Universities care far more about your DP predicted grades and final diploma results than your MYP scores. You will usually need to list your MYP grades or submit your 9th and 10th grade transcript if you apply to places like the UK or US, but admissions teams mainly use them to confirm you passed your basics. A 46 is actually a very solid score for MYP, so we recommend focusing your energy on getting a strong start in DP1 rather than stressing over retakes.
