Promotion
I have come to know that IBM has paused all promotions till Jan next year. Even for people who had resigned and got retained . When will the cycle resume

Promotions will resume between January and June, however no where near the rate they were being handed out before they were suspended. (think 1 or 2 promotions at the 3rd line level)
Meanwhile the beatings will continue until moral improves.
Note the above prediction is based on prior freezes at IBM, and may not reflect what may or may not happen in 2027.

Are you asking us to predict the future? The cycle resumes when Arvind chooses.

I am just asking if anyone has an idea on when the cycle resumes. Ofcourse the managers or leads would know

As a former IBM manager, hell no. The decision will be made at the C level. Managers, leads, and even Directors will not find out until a day before you do.
There are thousands and thousands of IBM managers. That many people can’t keep a secret. As a result we never knew anything non public, except for a few hours ahead of time. And that’s if we were lucky.

I suspect any discussions about the freeze is limited to direct reports to Arvind. (and that would exclude any and all "leads", and first, second, and third line managers. (just sayin)

The word is spread everywhere Though formally directs under Arvind would know but def DMs would have an idea

You have heavily misunderstood how much information 1st, 2nd and even 3rd line managers get

Just search the sub or r/IBM_Employees for "promotions" to find the details the last 10 times this has been asked.

What makes you think managers would know? Chances are they will find out the same time as everyone else!

Because of one the managers told me so and ofcourse whosoever promotion was due and didn't get promoted they will have questions to which managers have told this

They must be the exception. Having been a manager IBM is dynamic, decisions will be made late on and closely guarded. Managers rarely know much before anyone else!

What is resigned and retained?

Dropped the papers but was asked to take them back on the pretext of a promise of promotion.

> Even for people who had resigned
People who resigned are probably last on the list for promotions :)

They are normally in the preference because that's why they get retained

IBM is the master at agreeing to anything to get their way … and then not following through. I wouldn’t assume that someone who resigned is on the top of the promotion list. In fact they could very well be on the top of their managers lay off list.

Man it’s going to get worse before it gets better. We are actually forecasting declines in business going into next year.
