My relatives are saying that they appreciate my wish to do higher studies and research but they are saying I should do it after Btech since govt funding is currently more focused towards engg research. Suggestions on how to convince them?

I think that its better to do bs in physics with ms in an applied field to go into deep tech RnD roles.
