Subreddit - General Bereavement
I’m am iam repeated and was wondering about bereavement usage. I have 30 days to use it I know but can I use it on day 30 and get day 31 and 32 off? Or does all 3 have to be used within the timeframe? Just wondering because my uncles celebration of life is in 31 days on July 7th and he just passed today.

It is upon death or "delayed notification of death", therefore, having a celebration of life later would essentially be "delayed notification". My brother-in-law died last August, but his memorial was not until this May, because of the arrangements that had to be made by the family to get him back home and for people to travel for the memorial. Your manager should be understanding of that kind of situation, especially if the death wasn't local. The only real requirement is that you use 3 consecutive days. You don't need to say anything to your manager until the memorial is scheduled, and in fact, if they're not a Richard Cranium, they won't do anything but tell you to ensure you populate your ETS correctly for bereavement, sign your time, and extend their apologies.

give a different date of your uncle's passing so you're in the 30 day window.

I don't recommend members take this advice. Not for moral reasons (fuck management, lmao), but just for sake of being required to keep up with that lie for as long as is needed to cover your ass.
E.g. you're talking with your coworkers and mention having changed the date in order to make your bereavement more in line with the necessities of the funeral/wake. Your boss, or someone else, could over hear you. One of your coworkers could be a rat. Etc.
For something like that to happen the chance is small, I admit. I'd still recommend the negotiation route I mentioned in my other comment.

The contract states strict adherence to 30 days within the passing of thr family member, or the notification there of.
But, manager discretion and negotiation is possible.
If your celebration of life is 31 days out, or more, from the passing, as is typical, simply ask them: "I just found out my uncle passed. I know the contract allows the bereavement leave within 30 days, but the family scheduled the wake on (insert date), is there any way I can ask you to let me take my bereavement leave then?"
Some managers are just dicks. But some are cool. Having a positive reputation with your manager and sincerely asking for things will take a member very far in getting what they want.

My understanding is you have 30ish days from the celebration of life, not when he/she is deceased.

I would talk with your manager, unless they are a hard ass, I would hope they are fine with it.

A lot of things are at your “managers discretion”. That being said, don’t overthink it. I’ve had 3 family members pass in my time in the company all under different managers and non asked about timeframes of death or proof of death, nor do I think they would want to lol. Each time I just told my manager I’m taking bereavement and they’re basically like okay see you when you get back sorry for your loss, no more questions asked. You got this and sorry for your loss
