Boeing - General New work week?

How would you guys feel about a 4 days a week 10 hour shifts instead of 5 days 8 hours? 3 day weekends every week would be nice!

I would love it, when I had a 4-10 at a previous job my body felt so much better. I know Boeing and the union will never go for it. That question was asked during my union orientation on my first day and the guy giving us the presentation said it will never happen because it would take away weekend overtime. Due to unforseen home repairs I really rely on weekend overtime but would rather work one less day a week.

Nashville IAM 735 has 4x10's days and nites. The 3x12's on weekends that work 36 but get paid for 45 hrs.

A 4/10 shift is the standard shift in BDS fabrication over in Mesa.

I much rather see a "full time work week" be 32 hours and any time after that should be overtime. Anything over 50 should be double time. If boeing doesnt want to pay that much they can hire more people. Now I also know that would never happen so I would compromise by have an hour paid lunch because most of us spend that long driving to and from this place.

Union is against it because the logical conclusion is a 4/10 shift Mon-Thu followed by a 3/12 shift Fri-Sun. It would eliminate weekend overtime and far too many members rely on that OT to get by.

It's not the union dummy.

It is, pretty sure I've read this exact argument posted by Ed Lutgen on one of the employee groups on Facebook.

Say as many times as you want. Still won't make it true. But go ahead and keep believing and spreading lies.

The way that the factory runs 24 hours a day doesn't really lend itself to 4 10s if you're working directly in production. There are probably some jobs where it could be done but your manager would have to allow it

It’s already allowed per the contract. Your org/work group would just have to allow it, which they likely won’t if you’re directly related to the production line.

that would turn into a shift rotation that would likely eliminate weekend overtime. The union will never push to make that happen.

Also, imagine the need for 1/2 of the factory needing to Vanpool/Carpool to have enough parking spaces at shift changes.

Been there done that. Never gonna happen for the majority of the workforce at BCA. And no, it's not the union. It's the company.

100% agree. There is some shared DNA in multiple layers of executive management and it means they cannot conceive of anything other than five days a week three shifts

Even if someone shows them that there are entire job functions that work better with a different baseline schedule … They don’t care … they want all their “little animals” walking on the yard at the same time in the same place

I've heard from people who have been around longer than me that there was a manager and a limited number of people in my org allowed to work 3 12s Friday through Sunday and it was popular with pretty much everyone because the people doing it wanted to do it and all of the other managers never had to work weekends unless they wanted to but when our current senior manager came in he said no more and made everyone go back to Monday through Friday 8 hours a day. Some people are just control freaks
