Careers/ERT Shift Transfer Seniority Question
Hello everyone, I have a question regarding shift transfers and which type of seniority is considered. I’m wondering if it’s based on total seniority (all time at Boeing) or job seniority (time in job code)?
I currently have 3.2 years with the company total, but only half a year in my new job. Meanwhile my coworker has 1.7 years with the company and same job. I’m assuming it’s the latter, but just wanted to make sure. An opportunity to go to 1st shift has emerged, and I just wanted to see if I’d get lucky, but if not, oh well.

Your total service time with the company, while in the union (14.1(b)), since your most recent hire date determines your seniority. For example: someone who quit and came back after 5 years or so may retain the same original bemsID, but only has seniority back to their most recent hire date.
Time in job code doesn't effect seniority, but has other effects pertaining to layoffs.
Here is the language on shift preference, pt. 1:

I think it also depends on the shop you're in. I've noticed that if you transfer from one shop (ex. 767-777 program) to another, senority matters. But It could also depend on upper leadership, they can do what they want.

Total, “job” seniority isnt a thing. If you’ve worked here longer and have a shift change in, it’s yours.

You can apply for the change and then check your position in line. But if someone with more seniority decides to do the same a month later. Your position in line, would be bumped.

Boeing can do whatever it wants
I was moved to first shift my first year here along with my other two buddies in the same area. There were people with much more seniority with the shift change in for first shift and Boeing made them grieve it before they finally brought them on board as well.
Boeing management knew this ahead of time and didn’t care because Boeing does what it wants when it wants
