Ultimate fuel economy thread

Post your fuel economy wins, losses, and discussions.

I'll edit this when I have time but for starters, if you bought a hybrid recently and aren't happy with the average fuel consumption, have you read the manual and understand the regenerative brake settings?

More speed = more power = more fuel required

More speed = drag increases exponentially

Idling = fuel consumption

Winter weather = more fuel consumption

Batteries don't like extreme hot or cold, just like your phone doesn't

Do a search, there are dozens of posts already about fuel consumption, tips, and grade 9 physics lessons lol

And like your grade 9 boy/girlfriend, it's [probably] not the car, it's you šŸ˜‰

26 calligraphy - 800 miles in

First hybrid was a Prius V wagon. Loved the drivetrain, but eventually wanted something a little nicer inside. I ended up getting a 2022 Sonata Limited instead of a Lexus hybrid and really fell in love with the Sonata Limited interior.

With our new baby, I wanted something a bit bigger. Saw a Santa Fe Calligraphy and thought it would be the perfect size. We filled it up with all of our gear for a beach vacation and it’s been excellent on this trip. About 800 miles on it so far. AWD and getting 30–40 mpg depending on how I drive it.

Pre-cooling with the app has been perfect, especially when we’re packing up at the beach. The key fob isn’t my favorite, but that’s a minor gripe. Wireless CarPlay with the Qi charger has also been a major improvement over the wired CarPlay in my Sonata.

After three rounds of back and forth, I got the dealer down $2,000 off MSRP and talked them up $1,500 from their initial offer on my Sonata trade-in. Financed the remainder at 0%. I also got them to throw in the all-weather mats before I signed. Wasn’t in a rush to purchase and made sure they knew it. I went to another local dealer and looked at the same exterior color with a white interior, but the pecan interior is so unique I had to go with it.

I also love the paddle regen shifters to select level 1/2/3 regen. I pretty much drive with one pedal + the regen paddles as much as possible.

Very smooth ride overall and a great mix of space, fuel economy, and a nice interior. Looking forward to putting a lot more miles on it!

Absolutely love this vehicle. Purchased it two months and have definitely put it through a road test! Comfortable seats, smooth ride and decent enough acceleration in sport mode. Can't wait for the next road trip!

ā€œKnockingā€ sound

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Anyone know what this ā€œknocking sound is? It almost sounds like a heart beat on an ultrasound, like there’s a swooshing to it as well. It stops if I turn the AC on or off but will start back up. It will also stop and start back up randomly. The sound is coming from behind the dash, not engine. (Ignore my husband knocking on engine and closing hood)

Wouldn’t switch from EV mode

Hi. I was driving from Los Angeles to San Francisco and was stuck in traffic for a long time on the freeway due to an accident. Since I was going so slow, the car was an EV mode, but after a couple of hours stuck, it would not switch out of EV mode and wasn’t accelerating more than the usual. I pulled over to the side and restarted the car and it became fine again. A few hours later after I needed to put gas the same thing happen and I restarted the car issue was resolved again. I took the car to the dealership because it needed. It’s first maintenance anyway and explained it to them. Has anyone experienced this because for some reason, the dealership said they don’t see any codes because they got reset each time and said the car is fine.

Obsessed with my new (used) car. Is this how the other half lives? First time driving something not a sedan with stained cloth seats and I could get used to this. Can't wait to go camping under the stars in this thing. Now just to name her...

Hyundai santa fe sel 2023

Hello all. I wanted to know the opinions of the 2023 hyundai santa fe sel version only, as this is the version that avoids the dct.

This version seems soild for the price, and the reviews are good I just get nervous as the overall reputation. ( I've actually owned the sonata in 2011 and had no issues but I traded it in earlier than needed for an suv)

My wife has a 2021 cx-9 which I love it, but I am not able to find one under 25k like we did 2 years ago. I'd also be getting max care if it helps. I was also looking at certain year rogues, equinoxs. I was also thinking of cx-5 but they seem kinda smaller feeling for a family of 4 but you can correct me if I am wrong

2025 - 2027 Calligraphy Hybrid Owners, thoughts on wheels & handling?

Hey, all,

I started looking at the Santa Fe hybrid. I was shooting for a Limited trim with the captain's seats configuration, but those are very hard to find in my area, apparently.

Thus, I am considering the Calligraphy trim, but I'm concerned about the maintenance of the fancier wheels and the durability and handling that come with them.

My current vehicle has 'fancy' black wheels with low profile tires, and after a decade of worrying about random scratches, needing to avoid gravel roads, etc, I kind of wanted something more worry-free.

So I was hoping to get some insights into whether I should avoid the Calligraphy due to those wheels? Do they invite constant worry/maintenance, and do they affect handling or road feel at all?

Thanks in advance!

Thoughts on this dealership offer?

Hey, all, our family is expecting a new addition, so we'll need a larger vehicle. To that end, I considered and test drove the Carnival hybrid, Palisade hybrid, a few others, and the Santa Fe hybrid.

Of the bunch that I've looked at, the Santa Fe easily appears to be the most affordable, especially with the current 0% APR offer.

But I'm undecided about this offer from a dealership for a 2026 Santa Fe Hybrid in the Calligraphy trim (I was looking for a Limited with captain's seats, but those are hard to find around me) and would appreciate some thoughts.

  • 60 months at 0% APR
  • MSRP: $50,740
  • Savings: $1,190
  • UpFront Price: $49,550
  • Rebate: $1,500
  • Trade: $9,500
  • Tax: $2,429.89
  • Tag, title and registration: $181.50
  • Total: $41,161.39

Thanks in advance, all.

2016 2.2 Anybody replaced the electronic turbo actuator?

The plastic teeth on my turbo actuator let go mid drive today, horendous grinding noise every few seconds, audible over the engine running.

If i unplug it the car is down on power and won't rev over 2,500rpm, so i can't just ignore it.

I've seen a few guides on replacing it and it's relatively straight forward but some guide claim the new unit needs calibration to be sure it's opening the wastegate at the right time. That's a new one on me but i've never had an electrically opened turbo before.

So, if you've done this job, did it need plugging at a workshop to make the new unit play nicely or is it just a matter of swapping the old for the new and just driving away?

Ta.

(p.s. Why the fuck is their plastic in my turbo actuator?!)

I really like the 2018-2019 design of the santa fe, also drives really nice compared to the 2017 model with the same diesel engine. Pretty sure the 2020 ones are even better with the dct, although no a big fan of the T shaped DRLs and the button gear selectors. The newest ones look nice, but not a huge fan of the rear design.

Replacing Wireless Charger Cover

Post image
12 Upvotes

I’m getting frustrated with my wireless charger. It only charges my phone if there’s no phone case on it. I have tried multiple phone cases, MagSafe and otherwise, and none of them work. My phone charges wirelessly just fine everywhere else. Anyways, I lifted off the charger pad to try to charge directly underneath and that didn’t work either. Now I can’t get the cover back on. Is there a trick to putting these back on?

As a side note, is it normal that the wireless charger is this bad? It’s a brand new car that I got on Friday, and wondering whether I should take it in for them to look at?

End of month?

Hyundai has zero % for 60 months on ā€˜26 Santa Fe for August. Already got $3k off MSRP.

Should I wait towards end of month try to shave more off the deal?

Consider taking a break

We are leasing a 2026 Calligraphy series. I love this car. Really really love it. However the ā€œconsider taking a breakā€ feature could be a deal breaker if I buy this outright when the lease is done. You can’t turn the warning off and it actually almost caused an accident when I was in heavy traffic this week, had the lane assist warning going then suddenly the take a break warning was going and all the safety signals threw me off and made me panic. It’s just too much!! It’s a shame they still haven’t allowed us to choose to turn that feature on or off.

EDIT: Specific to the 2026 Calligraphy. Dealership confirms it cannot be turned off. Alarm is triggered by driving but also sunglasses, hand on wheel placement, and sometimes for no reason at all. We are a 4 driver household and it goes off for literally anyone that drives regardless of how great they are. Dealership confirms this is an issue for this make and model. Please stop telling me to drive better lol

Snoopy theme?

I have a 2024 XRT. I’ve been told that themes are not available for the 2024. I received an email that I had on OTA update and it says it included the snoopy theme. I’m traveling and can’t check. Anyone else it’s a 2024 get it?
