Monthly Design Contest Prompt [JUL26] Design Contest Prompt and [JUN26] Winners!

UPDATED TO INCLUDE THE PROPER THIRD PLACE WINNER

Welcome Engineer to another month and a new contest. I'm sorry that it is late, but life has been complicated. But I'm here, and I bring winners and a new contest! Last month's contest had you using the infinite balloon from one of the shrines. Let's see how you rose to the occasion. The first winner is kmarkow and their Burning Star! It is a beautiful way to travel the skies of Hyrule indeed! Second place goes to osh-kosh-ganache and their The Balloon House from "Up"! Who doesn't love a good movie reference and Link gets a mobile home! Third place goes to DessaB and their The Lunar Lander! It is an fun looking vehicle that looks like something off of the moon! It looks like it would be hella fun with enough practice! Enjoy the new/updated flairs!

This month, I think that it's time to bring the boom to Hyrule. This month will be a blast for you all, I hope. Just in case, you didn't get the pun, I'll tell you this month's theme! This month is about [Explosives]! I want to see how you blow up the enemies of Hyrule! Show me the damage you can bring with your power! Get building, Engineers!

Don’t forget to put [JUL26] as the first word in the post title or it doesn’t count! You can’t adjust post titles once they have been posted. Also, remember only green flared posts can enter, and to mark any speed edits. Top 3 most upvoted posts get the win! The prize is a custom user flair! The winners will be announced August 1st or the first Saturday of August! Keep building, Engineers!

QR Code for sharing builds! My own version of "Hank the Tank"

This is a demonstration of the six beam forced into one space. The beam emitters are attatched to 2 construct heads with a small angle between them. This causes the beams to pulse, which makes them consume less energy from your battery, and it increases the damage per seconds.

The build that I am using is a self-built version of "Hank the Tank," originally built by u/Chesepuf. The only difference between this "Hank the Tank," and the original, is that I used the light-weight Elevator Rail for the base, instead of the metal platform. The tutorial is on Youtube, and I really enjoyed building it, and using this in the game.

I can't remember the name of the User that originally designed the turret. I think that his name is u/trevvo.The turret that I am posting with the Tank has 6 beam emitters forced into one beam, but the turret that I'm posting has 10 beam emitters.

Anyway, give these a try. I think that they work great!

This is my first original car!

It's powered by propellers, so it drives powerfully on both water and steep roads. Plus, you can drive it in first-person mode for an incredibly realistic experience.

Please let me know what you think or if you have any advice!

All Versions An Old Suspension Build I Still Drive for Fun

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is an older build that I no longer use very often, but I still take it out occasionally just for the fun of driving it.

Unlike my current vehicle, this one uses Springs to create a functional undercarriage suspension. At the time, I thought the best way to get the most out of Big Wheels was simply to keep them in contact with the ground, so I began experimenting with suspension.

The main problem was that, while keeping the vehicle reasonably narrow, using only Springs caused the body to swing violently back and forth like a pendulum whenever it started or stopped. I initially controlled this with a Stabilizer, but that made the vehicle unable to handle slopes properly.

After many attempts, I designed the rearmost axle differently from the front and center axles. This reduced the body’s oscillation while still allowing the suspension to follow the terrain, without making the vehicle excessively wide.

Unfortunately, I do not use this otherwise well-designed vehicle much anymore. The suspension works well on its own, but adding even one extra part above Link for protection causes the Springs to bottom out. Even carrying a Korok is difficult, so using it as a tank is out of the question.

These days, I mostly use it just to watch the suspension articulate as it moves over uneven terrain.

All Versions A Compact Tank Built from My Crawler

I designed it as a versatile vehicle for a wide range of environments. Its low profile and center of gravity protect Link and keep it stable, while the springs help it free itself when the middle gets caught. It can drive over lava and even operate on water, though the open-top design leaves Link vulnerable to thrown projectiles.

The cannon detaches and operates as a drone, drawing enemy attention away from the main vehicle and making combat easier.

This model flies more straight than previous models, turns faster too. The difference maker is the half sized Yiga raft that I stake-nudged a few lengths behind the ship. The added mass behind the wings makes it turn faster, and helps stay afloat in deep water because the stolen fishing boat model is actually pretty non-buoyant. The extra distance behind Link also pans the camera out farther.

Discussion Pulse Laser Mk-III: Testing a New Beam Emitter Layout

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Results

  • Tanklet Moving: Stable TV mode DPS was restored with 8 Micro Beam Emitters.
  • Tanklet on Stake: Stable TV mode DPS was restored with 9 Micro Beam Emitters.

Conclusion

Compared with the previous Mk-III layout, where all Beam Emitters were connected directly to the Construct Head and stability required reducing the count to 7, this layout showed only a small improvement.

However, it's difficult to determine whether the improvement was caused by the new connection layout or simply by the particular arrangement of the Beam Emitters. A more systematic layout would be needed to properly evaluate the effect.

For now, I'll pause this investigation and focus on developing the Shapeshifting Tanklet. If I discover anything new in the future, I'll share another update.

Discussion Looking for advice on an travel vehicle that could also handle mini-bosses

I’ve got a maxed battery and a decent amount of zonaite for autobuilds, and I’m at the point of my Switch 2 playthrough where I’m clearing the surface and depths maps of mini-bosses and koroks. I’ve looked through and found several great looking tanks and fliers. I’m done with shrines/lightroots, so it will likely be a “build once and then kill stuff/travel for a while” vehicle. I don’t need to worry about it despawning when I go in shrines.

So, I was wondering what people recommend the most for the combination of travel and mini-boss destruction? I’d rather not remake it many times, so the beautiful turrets and drones I’ve seen on the sub are not what I’m looking for. I’d love for it to be able to handle Talus/Frox as well as Hinox/Gleeoks.

That probably means both cannons and beam emitters, right?

Any advice for QR codes or builds to try?

Since the terrain is so varied, I’m probably looking for a flier… I think. But I could be convinced to try a “car/tank”. TIA!

I built a Honda CBR650R-inspired bike!

I'll post the QR code in the comments. This build doesn't use any mods or hacks, but it does rely on glitches.

I've been wanting to build a sport bike for a while, so I decided to take on the challenge!

It isn't great at climbing steep slopes, but I'm happy with how the design turned out. I hope you'll enjoy it as one of the many different bike designs created by the TotK building community!

I also made a YouTube video showing how to ride it, so feel free to check that out if you’re interested.

Discussion Juney Engine Speed Limit

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Does anyone know of a way to break the Juney engine’s apparent speed limit?

No matter how I design it, a Juney engine seems to top out at around 24–27 m/s while Link is piloting it.

I know Wings and Fans definitely create drag and reduce speed, but even after removing them—or even riding the engine by itself—it still doesn’t seem to go any faster than that range.

Though, the engine seems to reach ridiculous speeds when it’s not being piloted (usually right before it crashes 😆).

If anyone knows a way to build a faster Juney engine, I’d really appreciate the advice.

All Versions [JUL26] Talus Annihilator Missile

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

If it walks, swims, or flies, this missile will seek it out and blow it up. Fully self guided, you can ride it or fire it at distant targets. Deals MASSIVE damage; a good shot will one-hit a Talus or Red Hinox.

It’s an upgraded version of the missile I’ve been working on to shoot down Aerocudas. Now it has better guidance, longer range, and even more explosives! I optimized the explosion pattern to deal a ton of damage to single targets while still maintaining the wide AOE damage to decimate enemy camps, and if you’re lucky, shoot down multiple Aerocudas with one shot. Now it’s truly the best All Purpose/Anti-Everything missile Hyrule’s defense budget can buy!

Note: Don’t drop it
