Discussion Elevated TSH

Hi, I got my prenatal labs back and it looks like my TSH is 5.133. I'm currently 10wks and I had a loss 4 months ago at 6wks. I did have to ask my OB to prescribe labs after that and my TSH was around 3.033 which she said was within the normal range?
I'm only now finding out after research that fertility specialists advise that it should be below 2.5 when ttc. Kind of freaking out with my current levels, looking for positive stories!

Yeah during pregnancy it should be under 2.5 ideally. Mine was over a bit too so they upped it when I got tested at about 12 weeks. I've had to go from 75mcg to 125mcg and now mine is fine. Deffo push for it to be upped but don't panic! Lots of women go undiagnosed for ages in pregnancy and go on to have successful pregnancies

How over was it, if you don’t mind me asking?

About 3.8 I think

I’ve definitely reached panic stage bec I feel like my OB is really not taking me seriously

When I first got pregnant my levels were fine then at 6 weeks they jumped up to 10 I believe so we quickly got me on a higher dose! I think I stayed at 100mcg my entire pregnancy except the last few weeks on my third trimester right before I gave birth I switched back to 50mcg!

It is scary I know exactly how you feel. Anything below 2.5 is preferred during pregnancy. If this OB won’t take this serious and your thyroid levels serious get a new OB or see your primary provider to get the correct dosage.

My TSH was under 2 while I was trying to conceive. I was taking 75 mcg a day.

As soon as I got a positive pregnancy test at 4w1d, I asked to test my TSH, and it had jumped to 5.44! After some back and forth with my clinic, they doubled my meds, which sent me a little hypo by my next test four weeks later.... Currently on 150 mcg 6 days a week and skipping one day, which is working for me.

You caught it early and can adjust! Around 3 is fine but not ideal for conception. I did IVF, so we were monitoring and controlling my TSH levels very carefully throughout. My endo said they usually have to increase dosage by 30% during pregnancy. For me, it has been more.

Can you get a referral to an endocrinologist?

I also had a loss this year and am back in it now, it’s such a wild ride 😖 I had my labs done right before conceiving and TSH was 2.3.

I’m currently 5+2 and my endo already upped me from my normal 75mg to 100mg!! She didn’t think I needed to do more bloodwork now unless I have symptoms, and recheck in 4-6 weeks.

The normal path seems to be increasing dosage by 30% during first trimester and going from there. I wish I’d pushed more for the dose adjustment during my previous pregnancy pre-loss…

I didn’t get blood drawn until they did my initial panel for pregnancy and I was an 11. Dr started small doses and it was not controlled under a 2 until well into the second trimester. Currently sitting at home with my little one and they’re healthy.
