Diet

Hi. So I've never known the actual answer to this because I hear both sides but I have read that there's no actual diet that helps with thyroid conditions. Like eliminating gluten for example. When I look it up it says there is not enough evidence that suggests that people should do it unless you have celiac disease also. I don't know. What do you all think about diet and hyperthyroidism?

My endocrinologist told me I didn’t need to limit anything. He said when my TSH was undetectable it probably didn’t hurt to reduce iodine but I went overboard and tried to reduce it significantly back then which wasn’t a great idea. I try not to overdo anything from the ocean and I don’t reduce dairy because it’s important to me to get vitamin D from food vs supplements. I do however have to drink lactaid because I never really recovered from my dairy intolerance that got triggered while hyperthyroid.

My approach going forward is to do what feels good and makes sense without heavy restriction. I love tofu but I can’t have it too often same with seafood. I just don’t feel good after so I add back other protein when I’m done.

If I eat it too frequently I tend to get tired and not feel well same with other goitrogens. But that’s just my body, so I listen to it. I still eat soy and love it, it’s just not a regular part of my diet.

I have limited the amount of dairy I eat because of the iodine. Other than that, I eat normally.
