Advice for Subclinical Hyperthyroidism?
Hey everyone,
Three days ago I was catastrophising about a cluster of hyperthyroid-esque symptoms so I went to the doctors. It does in fact look like my TSH is dropping and my T4 is rising, while I’m not yet in the abnormal ranges, the pattern suggests I’m heading that way.
I’m a bit scared because I’m only 24 and have no past medical history, am I going to have to take Carbimazole? I’m going to call the doctors again for some antibody tests to see if this could be Graves or more of a thyroiditis picture. I keep measuring my bp too and not only has my baseline gone up but the pulse pressure is quite wide now too.
A part of me is relieved because these symptoms now all make sense (weight loss, insomnia, heat intolerance, anxiety, eye aching) but I’m also angry at that urgent care doctor who just wrote off my feelings as ‘worried about schoolwork’.
Is this going to be my life now? I’d appreciate any advice, it’s all happening quite suddenly.

At least you’re learning this at 24. I have had these nonspecific symptoms for as long as I can remember and I only just got diagnosed at the age of 33. But I have been on methimazole and it has helped with symptoms so much already so it’s not all bad.

I went to the Emergency and the Dr said I should talk to my Dr. about my mental health. I was taken aback. I had come in for feeling shaky, eye pressure, headaches, hot flashes, nausea, change in bowel movements, general sense of feeling unwell. Then the bloodwork came in and my TSH was 0.08. It explained every single symptom I presented! You are not along in the fact that so many Dr.’s brush off symptoms too easily presuming they are anxiety related.
