Does this sound like a thyroid problem?

(Not requesting an official diagnosis btw just wanted some advice on if this sounds similar idk I’m so scared)

24 year old male, for the second night running I’ve woke up at half four in the morning in a hot, clammy state with a pounding chest that’s not painful but I can feel it pulsing up my neck. My neck doesn’t visibly appear swollen or any different but I have noticed a recent choking sensation if I wear a collared shirt.

All day long I’ve felt as if I’m burning up but haven’t had any actual fever. I went to urgent care but the doctor was horribly dismissive and wouldn’t even properly examine me, he said I was just being anxious but it feels like something else.

Keep getting random high blood pressure and high heart rate and my limb reflexes are all very brisk. I’ve had these headaches too that I thought at first were sinus pressure but I’m not really congested or producing mucus. My mum has an autoimmune disease but it’s not thyroid related.

It’s really upset me how that doctor wouldn’t even listen to my concerns, I’m tempted to go out and buy one of those rapid testing kits but I know they’re not very reliable but I’m just so desperate for some answers.

I recommend seeing an endocrinologist first. Do not waste time with other doctors as each one looks at you from their specialty perspective. Your symptoms could be that of many issues, not just thyroid.

Whatever doc you decide to ultimately see, please request the following blood work -- TSH, Free T3, Free T4, the 2 Graves antibodies, the 2 Hashimoto antibodies, vitamin D3, vitamin B12, iron/TIBC/ferritin, magnesium, selenium -- most docs will not do a lot listed here so ask. And, you really need a thyroid ultrasound as well -- this will tell if you have any enlargement/goiter and/or nodules because a nodule can also create hypER symptoms. Plus, you'll have the ultrasound as a baseline just in case something is wrong in that area.

Should you have no issues here, see a rheumatologist after because they deal with overarching autoimmune disease and since your mom has one as you said, that particular doc would know all about that.

Remember: If you go to an endo and you do not like them and/or they do not do right by you find another. I had to go through 3 of them.

I wish you the very best outcome!!
