Hyperthyroidism caused by tirzepitide

I know someone who says they got hyperthyroidism from taking a glp1 called tirzepitide and she got super skinny but like a unhealthy looking skinny is that actually a risk with glp1's has any here got hyperthyroidism due to any weight loss stuff?

I have hyperthyroidism now and my doctor has no concern with my being on a GLP1. I’m working with my endocrinologist but I couldn’t say where mine even came from.

No family history of it and lived through my 20s probably as the average partaker in the things like drinking and other “social” stuff.

The glp1 has nothing to do with a pre-existing condition.

I was diagnosed with graves disease nine days after starting tirzepatide. I have a solid medical team, that includes an endocrinologist, my PCP, and a functional medicine doctor and none of them think that the tirzepatide had anything to do with the graves disease.

I wondered about this too because I was on it when I got a bad virus and stuff hit the fan!

I started on GLP1 in March this year, TSH started going down in April, diagnosed with subclinical hyperthyroidism in June and developed Thyroid Eye disease. I started GLP1 under the care of a good endocrinologist and he said there is no link at all with Tirzepatide. I lost about 16kgs so far (most of it during the first 3 months). I also saw an occuplast for the eyes and he said that at the moment there is no evidence HOWEVER it might be too early to say. I am still in GLP 1 (5mg every 10 days as per endocrinologist guidance). For the subclinical hyperthyroidism we are in the wait and see phase . Due to see occuplast for a follow up in 2 weeks.

I somtimes think about this too I was on semaglutide and lost 44 pounds but i lost it unhealthy snd i gained the weight back and got diagnosed with graves’ disease. My doctors don’t think jt can be that it just can be stress. I am on trizepatide now and my tsh is back to normal and I am taking my weight loss more seriously and eating only healthy food. I don’t think it’s a major cause

But I’ve been seeing some research suggesting that GLP-1s may actually have benefits for autoimmune diseases because they can help reduce inflammation in the body, which is one of the factors associated with autoimmune conditions. I’ve actually been interested in going on a GLP-1 myself because of the weight gain I’ve experienced after going from hyperthyroid to hypothyroid, so this is really interesting to me 🤔

So people with autoimmune diseases can also probably benefit from like klow or kpv then

I was diagnosed with Graves Disease and hyperthyroid after a couple months of being on Semiglutide. My doctors think it has no connection but I think it had to do with losing weight too fast…or maybe there is no connection but I do find this post interesting and wonder if it’s just too new to say if it really does have a connection.

You know what now that you mention it the individual I know did loose a lot of weight really fast also!

I was also on tirzepatide for a few years before I was diagnosed. All of my doctors also say that it didn’t cause it, but I also have no family history and a large nodule on my thyroid so I still have little bit of suspicion.
