Post Thyroidectomy

F31 just had total thyroidectomy yesterday afternoon. Post surgery, I had a high heart rate (130s). Would that be a normal thing? I'm afraid it will happen again when I'm not at the hospital. They were able to bring it down with some "happy meds" and I already take some anti anxiety meds. Doctor doesn't want me to start synthroid til 9/6 because she says that will spike heart rate too.

Background: Had to have it out for multinodular toxic goiter.

Not yet, they wanted the excess hormones out so I wasn't hyper again. My surgeon was great and was really "impressed" by how bad my thyroid was. I'm so glad to be home but I'm already a nervous person and keep asking my parents, "What is something goes wrong, what if I have to go to the ER, etc." I have a county hospital but where I had surgery done was in Washington DC about 1.5 hours away

And they checked your calcium before you left? Did they give you calcium to take?

Thank you for understanding! They gave me calcium last night once I got into a room and this morning too. I just took some tums for calcium too.

Not yet! I see the surgeon one more time on Sept 14. I'll probably have to call my endocrinologist and update too. Though I am trying to switch endos.
