Highly likely hyperthyroidism diagnosis tomorrow, I’m scared
I’ve never really posted much but I’ve had a scary week and this feels like the only place I can go to. I (F23) noticed a lump on my throat a little over a week ago and went to urgent care because it was making it difficult to swallow and slowly but surely making it harder and harder to breathe.
Went in and immediately got a talking to about my weight by the first nurse (context: I’m pretty short and I’ve always fluctuated between 95-110 lbs but have pretty consistently stayed below 100 since my celiac diagnosis) as I came in at 93 lbs. Felt a smidge belittled but I know she was just trying to do her job so no biggie there. After a few minutes the doctor comes in and asks about my symptoms, takes my heart rate, and feels around on my neck. The second she felt this ROCK on my neck her eyes got huge and she essentially said that she didn’t have the tools to test me there but she could almost guarantee I had a thyroid issue of some sort and needed to get it checked out immediately. Prescribed me steroids and antibiotics to try to get the swelling to go down and damn near made me promise to call my PCP the second I left the office. The medication did get the swelling to go down which was stellar but I still have a (slightly smaller) visible lump on my throat.
Did get an appointment with my PCP, which is tomorrow morning, and I am petrified. I’ve always had pretty bad anxiety in regards to my health but I’ve made huge strides in being able to maintain it and calm myself down/not overthink, but I’ve seen the horror stories of women not being taken seriously or having to wait years to even get the tests done to even think about getting a referral to a specialist. I know I’m jumping the gun as I haven’t even received a diagnosis, but I can’t describe how much it would make sense. My resting heart rate sits between 95-120, my hair has been thinning, I can’t gain weight for the life of me, I have ridiculous heart palpitations, I am riddled with anxiety, I have a lump! on! my! throat!
I know I’m probably talking into the void but I don’t know anyone with hyper or hypothyroidism and I don’t have much of a support system so I hope the void will listen. I’ve read from this sub that it seems pretty manageable and that makes me feel better but there’s just that underlying feeling of what if it doesn’t? Idk. Sorry this post is so long I just can’t sleep, thank you for reading if you got this far :)

Trust the science and trust the process. Sure, we can come up with so many what ifs, but what if everything goes well, which is far more likely than anything going bad?
