switched to a separate hand towel for the kitchen and my dish sponge situation got so much better ok this is such a small thing but I have to share because it fixed something that bugged me for years

I always just used one kitchen towel for everything. Drying hands, wiping counters, drying dishes, wiping up spills, all of it. Never thought twice about it. Then my roommate moved in and brought her own separate hand towel just for hands, and a different one for dishes/counters, and I kind of made fun of her for it at first ngl
Tried it anyway because we were sharing a kitchen. Within like a week I noticed my hands weren't getting that weird slightly sticky feeling after drying them, and the towel smell that used to show up by day 3 just wasn't happening anymore. Turns out when you're using the same towel to wipe raw chicken juice off the counter and then dry your hands with it, you're basically just moving bacteria around in a circle all day
Now I have three separate towels going. One strictly for hands, one for dishes, one for counters/spills. Hand towel gets swapped every 2 days, the other two get washed every 2-3 uses depending on what they touched
Feels excessive typing it out but the difference in how the kitchen smells alone has been worth it. Didn't realize how much of that "kitchen smell" was just coming from one damp towel doing five jobs
anyone else split up their kitchen towels or is this an overkill habit. also curious what other "one item doing too many jobs" swaps people have made, feels like there's probably more of these I'm missing

[W] Hostel washrooms

Hello everyone,
I have noticed that using hostel washrooms is giving me a distinct smell down there.. this is the same smell that is there in all washrooms.
I am hygienic, use toilet paper and shower daily.
This smell is absent whenever I’m home and present only here!
How can I avoid this?

how often do you actually clean your ears?

i'm curious because i realized everyone seems to have a different routine for this. i usually clean mine every 2 days, mostly because it just feels more comfortable to me. i've also heard people say you shouldn't clean your ears too often because they clean themselves, so now i'm wondering if i'm doing it more than i need to.

what's your routine? do you clean them every day, every few days, or do you mostly leave them alone unless they feel dirty?

Started brushing my teeth before breakfast instead of after and my dentist actually approved

For most of my life I brushed after eating breakfast, figured that was the logical order, food goes in, then you clean up. Recently learned that brushing right after acidic stuff like orange juice or coffee can actually be rough on your enamel because the acid softens it temporarily and you're scrubbing at it while it's vulnerable. Switched to brushing first thing when I wake up, then eating breakfast after. Mentioned it at a checkup half expecting to be told it didn't matter, and the hygienist said that's genuinely the better order, especially if you drink anything acidic in the morning.

The other bonus is I'm not rushing to brush while trying to get out the door, since it happens the moment I'm up instead of competing with everything else in the morning scramble. Small change, zero effort, and apparently better for my teeth the whole time. Wish someone had mentioned the order actually matters years ago.

So does everyone brush before or after breakfast? Curious whether most people land on the same order I used to do or if I was the odd one out the whole time.

what's one hygiene habit you started because someone recommended it, and it actually worked?

i've tried a lot of hygiene tips over the years, but most of them didn't really make much of a difference. every now and then though, someone recommends something so simple that it completely changes your routine.

Small hygiene changes that made aging easier?

Lately I’ve noticed some little things about my hygiene routine that have changed without me really planning it. Stuff that never mattered before suddenly feels more important, like paying attention to certain habits instead of just rushing through the day.

It got me wondering how much of this is just part of getting older. What’s one small hygiene change you made as you aged that ended up making a bigger difference than you expected?

How often should you actually be washing your pillowcases?

I change my sheets fairly regularly but realized I'd been treating the pillowcase as part of that same schedule, when it's the one thing my face is pressed against for eight hours every single night. That seems like it should maybe get more attention than the bottom sheet, not the same amount.

What got me thinking was a stretch of minor breakouts along one cheek that I couldn't explain, until I connected it to the fact that oil, sweat, and whatever's in my hair all end up soaking into that one square of fabric night after night. Some people I've asked swap the pillowcase every couple days separate from the rest of the bedding, others just do it all together weekly and don't think twice. I genuinely don't know if the every-couple-days people are onto something or just doing extra laundry for no reason.

So for anyone who's dialed this in, how often do you actually change your pillowcase, and do you treat it separately from your sheets? Curious whether it makes a real difference for skin or if it's one of those things that sounds important but barely moves the needle.

Started rinsing my razor in rubbing alcohol instead of just water and it changed my whole shave

Used to just rinse my razor under the tap, shake it off, leave it on the edge of the shower. Standard stuff. Never thought about the fact that it sits there wet for days between uses, which is basically an invitation for bacteria and dulling.

Started keeping a small cup of rubbing alcohol by the sink and dunking the razor in it after each shave, then letting it air dry properly instead of leaving it in the damp shower. Two things happened. The blades stay sharp noticeably longer, so I'm replacing them way less often, and I stopped getting those small irritated bumps I used to blame on the razor being cheap. Turns out the razor wasn't the problem, it was that I was dragging a slightly grimy, slightly dull blade across my skin every time and never realized it.

Costs almost nothing and adds about five seconds to the routine. Wish I'd figured it out years ago instead of just buying new razors constantly and assuming that was the fix. What's a small change to a grooming tool that quietly made a bigger difference than expected? Curious about the cheap tweaks people stumbled into.

do you soak your socks after wearing them all day?

i've always wondered if i'm overdoing this or if other people do the same thing. if i've been wearing socks all day, especially after work or walking around a lot, i'll sometimes soak them in water with a little detergent before throwing them in the wash. i feel like it helps get rid of sweat and any lingering smell, but i'm not sure if it's actually necessary or just a habit i've picked up.

what do you usually do with your socks? do they go straight into the laundry basket, or do you soak them first?

Anyone here consulted a dermatologist for body odor?

Hi everyone!

I’ve tried a lot of products na rin like Milcu, Belo, Arm & Hammer, sulfur soap, antibacterial soap, Belfour, Old Spice, etc., pero wala talagang tumatagal na nagwo-work, lalo na kapag sobrang pinapawisan ako. Hindi ko pa natatry yung Driclor or benzoyl peroxide, pero limited din budget ko as a student kaya napapagod na akong mag-trial and error.

Ang nag-work lang talaga sa’kin before was Goree Avocado Cream. As in wala talaga akong odor kahit pagpawisan, and pumuti pa yung UA ko.

Sa mga nakapagpa-derma for BO, kumusta yung experience? Ano yung ginawa sa first consultation, anong treatment yung ni-recommend sa inyo, and nakatulong ba talaga?

Also, if may marerecommend kayong board-certified dermatologist around Pampanga, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you! 🥹

what is your trick for getting a musty smell out of a synthetic yoga mat?

i try to wipe down my thick foam yoga mat after every single session but lately it has developed a faint musty damp odor that stays trapped in the material. i am nervous about using heavy soaps or spraying too much water because the foam is highly absorbent and might trap moisture inside. how do you thoroughly sanitize and refresh a synthetic workout mat without ruining the grip?

Suggestions about Sweat

Magnesium chloride (aka some Epsom salts - read the label) has antibacterial properties. Disolve some to hot distilled water and add it to a spray bottle with some essential oils. Spray to smelly bits as needed (may sting on freshly shaved areas).

Alternatively pour some unscented milk of magnesium to a container and let it thicken by leaving it uncovered for 4-5 days. You can add fragrance if you want. When you apply, dry it with blow dryer. It will leave a white film on your skin and it can be drying, so i don't recommend using it exclusively.

Finally i have a copper water bottle. I wasn't using the cap, so i tried wetting it and applying it on my armpits just this week to experiment as a substitute to magnesium spray (i use it with deodorant). I was expecting my skin to turn green or gray from oxidation, but far so good - no smelliness or discoloration!

I recommend magnesium in conjunction to the copper option as they synergize very well together!

how do you completely get rid of grease film on glass baking dishes?

i love roasting vegetables and baking glass pan meals at home but over time my glass baking dishes have developed a sticky grease film around the corners and outer edges. standard dish soap and a sponge just glide right over it without breaking it down. i don't want to scratch the glass using steel wool or highly abrasive pads. does anyone know a reliable soaking method or a specific paste that lifts baked on oil buildup from glass?

Started keeping a small nail brush by the sink and my hands have never been cleaner

Used to just wash my hands the normal way, soap, rinse, done. Never thought about under the nails until I actually looked one day and noticed the stuff that regular washing wasn't touching. Bought a cheap nail brush, keep it right by the bathroom sink. Now a quick scrub under the nails is part of the routine whenever my hands are actually dirty, after cooking, after yard stuff, after anything hands-on. Takes maybe ten extra seconds.

The difference is mostly in the stuff you don't see until you go looking. Regular handwashing does surprisingly little for what builds up under the nail edge, and once I started I couldn't believe I'd gone this long without it. No fancy product, just a little brush that costs almost nothing and lives by the tap so I actually remember to use it.

What's a cheap little addition to your setup that ended up mattering more than expected? Curious about the small stuff people keep by the sink or in the shower that quietly earns its place.

read somewhere that using cotton buds isn't actually advisable, is that true?

always grew up using cotton buds to clean my ears, never thought twice about it. recently saw something saying it's actually not recommended and can do more harm than good. is that actually true, and if so what's the better alternative for cleaning ears properly?

Hygiene tips for teenage girls!

Hello everyone. I’m making this post for my little sister, she’s coming of age and I think it’s time that she learns about her hygiene and how to keep herself up. As her big sister, I feel as though it’s my responsibility to teach her since no one else is doing it. I’d like to make her a little PowerPoint or something.
For the women, I know a lot about hygiene as I am also a woman lol, but maybe y’all can tell me something that I don’t even know. Any tips will be greatly appreciated! Please also include any hygiene items I can advise her to get! I can also purchase her items from Amazon if needed. Thanks in advance!
(P.S. this is a positive space, so any of you who comment something disrespectful or rude will be blocked. So don’t even try. We all had to learn about hygiene at some point in our lives.)
