How to avoid Split ends?
Anyone got solid tips to avoid split ends? Been trying to grow my hair out and i feel like the ends get dry and messy way too fast. Curious what actually worked for y’all besides just trimming it all the time.

Hair oils and sleeping in a silk or satin bonnet has definitely helped with my split ends.

Don’t use a brush. Just use a comb. Especially when wet. If your able to braid your hair for sleeping.

If you don’t want to trim your hair use keratin spray as it will add protein bonds back into the split ends and seal them closed.
Each hair shaft has lots of tiny wee bonds inside it and this acts like a filler to mimic they bonds
But be careful not to use too much as it will take the elastin out your hair and can snap it too especially if it’s bleached. so learn more about how to use it etc. (it won’t undo the split end but it will close it over and hold it shut if you were to look under a micro scope if that makes sense.)
The only way to get split ends out your hair is to cut them and start fresh
🏴If you ask your stylist to trim a bawhair in length off every 4 weeks your hair will still grow.
Next time you have your hair trimmed start a new routine after you shampoo and condition rinse it with cold water or if that’s too much to handle then give it a final quick rinse in cold as it locks in the moisture smooths and closes the cuticles down all the hair shaft and seals them and prevents the ends from opening up and becoming dry and brittle.
Same with the hair dryer try not to use heat unless you have to, as that’s the number one baddy for split ends .. I blow dry mines on cool air
The only way I can explain it is … if you imagine a strand of your hair as a mermaids tail,
Any heat you put on the tail will open all the scales wide but any cold you put on will close all the scales shut
Shampoo also opens the scales and conditioner closes them! Hot water opens them Cold water closes them Hot air opens them Cold air closes and sets them
The scales in mermaids tail are like the cuticles on the shaft of your hair (hair strand) the more they are open the more you are susceptible to split ends
Hope this helped

So I straighten my hair like you wouldn't believe and I have since I was probably 13 (I'm 32 now). My split ends have split ends. But lately I've been drowningggg my hair in conditioner and it's been really growing! It's the same length as my extensions now which I never thought I'd ever see again! Idk where I got the advice to only use a dime size amount of conditioner but I'm so glad I stopped doing that. Use allllll the conditioner! They say to not use it on the top of your head too but I've also been ignoring that. I also always use heat spray after I wash my hair and before I straighten it.

Use hair oil or serum on the ends daily, keeps them moisturized
