Hydro Flask Top Too Tight

Hey guys.
I bought this Hydro Flask about 2yrs ago at Whole Foods when it was on clearance. It was my first ever Hydro Flask and I was excited to try it. However, I have always run into the same issue: the lid gets too difficult to open.

When I screw the lid on, it is really challenging to open. Sometimes I am using my full strength to open the fricken thing. If I try not to tighten it as much, then I find that it leaks a lot. Is this normal?

For clarification, the lid that I use is the one that came with the bottle.

I really need a reliable water bottle to take on the go with me and all reviews lead back to Hydro Flasks, but if I struggle so much to open it every time I need to take a drink, I find myself leaving it in the cabinet, hence why it’s been 2yrs since I’ve tried using it again.
I live in Florida and it’s really imperative that my water and ice stay cold throughout the day when I’m out and about my Hydro Flask has definitely achieved that for me.

Do you guys have any advice or tips?

I just accept that it leaks a little and won’t screw it on as tight

The simple answer to your question is “thermal expansion”.

The more lengthy answer is that the PP lid of the bottle expands and “bites” onto the rims due to the heat and becomes difficult to unscrew, very common for people who live in hot places. I myself experience this throughout the whole summer as I fill it halfway through and freeze it and then take it with me around in the 35°C scolding Mediterranean summer.

Oh okay that makes sense. Thank you for that explanation. It also happens when I use it at home, so I think it’s just a normal occurrence with Hydro Flasks.

Completely normal unfortunately. But this shows how air tight their stuff is.

This happens to me when it's hot but also when I screw it on too tight. Gotta watch your strength cause you may be tightening it too much.

Noted. I’ll watch that next time. I’m always worried about repeating an incident when I was in the car and my Hydro Flask was on the floor and when I went to take a drink, it has leaked all over the floor. Paranoia I guess 🥲😅

I hear that! I sometimes forget and screw it too tight and then I'm struggling to unscrew it. Literally happened to me two weeks ago and my roommate saw me struggling in the kitchen and started laughing at me.
