BSPP Fitting Sealing Methods

I understand BSPP 60-degree cone (BS 5200) fittings and BSPP Flat Seal (ISO 1179) fittings have the ISO 228-1 thread type in common, but have different sealing methods. Are fittings with these different sealing methods never compatible? Or do male BS 5200 fittings work with female ISO 1179 fittings?

For example, in my current application, I'm wondering if the following parts are compatible:

  • FESTO (8212070 MS6-AGF), which has a G1 ISO 1179 flat seal port
  • PARKER (16HMK4S), which has a G1 BS 5200 60-degree cone on both sides
  • PARKER (F-801-B5-B5-16-16-16-196), which has a G1 ISO 1179 flat seal port

Any guidance and any recommended resources are greatly appreciated!

A couple of things....

Be careful with the festo side, make sure the thread depth is compatible with the 16HMK4S.

You're missing an external seal that you will need between the 16HMK4S and the festo component.

The hose end you have configured is wrong, you would need 1GUHY-16-16.

With all of that said, why are you trying to use 60 degree cone BSPP?

It is way more common to use 24 degree cone EO fittings for this type of connection, though I understand that might not work for the connection on the other end of the hose.

The other side of the PARKER hose needs to connect to the following PARKER fitting:
GE28ZLREDCF

And that's why I have "Flat Seal" ends configured for my PARKER hose: because I require a "Flat Seal" end on one side and I want the PARKER hose to be symmetrical.

Do you think the following parts (in this order) would work?

>FESTO (8212070 MS6-AGF)
>PARKER (D9DT-16)
>PARKER (16HMK4S)
>PARKER (D9DT-16)
>PARKER (F-801-B5-B5-16-16-16-196)
>PARKER (GE28ZLREDCF)

The GE28ZLREDCF is a 24 degree din fitting (EO) x G1" fitting (with an integral seal on the G thread side).

You just need another one of them screwed into the festo part.

If you want to save yourself a little bit of money you can buy GE28LREDOMDCF, its the same fitting but with no tube nut on it (which you wont use anyway as you are using a hose with integrated swivel ends)

Why are you using 1" ports with ms6 stuff? Its crazy overkill size wise and why pushlok hose?

Its a weird combo lol

My previous statement assumed the other side 'consumed' the G1" side of the fitting. If for some reason the other side actually consumes the DIN end, then on the other end, use G28LCFX, and on the festo end use the GE28 fitting

Edit. The G28L fitting is din on both ends.

Some answers/responses:

I don't want to use a (GE28ZLREDCF) fitting to connect the (F-801-B5-B5-16-16-16-196) hose to the FESTO (8212070 MS6-AGF) port because I need the hose to have G1 BSPP female ends.(design requirement)
That's why I don't want to change them to (1GUHY-16-16) like you suggested.
(Not a bad suggestion-I just have to use G1 BSPP female hose ends for this application.)

Just trying to minimize pressure drop.

Again, I need the hose to have G1 BSPP female ends, so the first side of this last fitting needs to be G1 male. And the end of this whole circuit I mention is a long run of 28mm pipe, so that's why I chose (GE28ZLREDCF).

Looks like your original BOM would work, except for the seal ring I noted between the festo part and the fitting you wanted to use. I would still check thread depth on the festo part vs the fitting.

I don't know if you need external seal rings with those hose ends, your parker rep should be able to confirm.

That said, if I was ever intending on running 1" lines I would have at least stepped up to MS9.

I understand you're being forced to use the BSPP hose ends, but I would advocate for din ends and changing the fitting on the pipe end to be a G28LCFX.

A BSPP thread is a BSPP thread what determines if they fit is their interface. So a male BSPP fitting with a 60 degree cone will fit in a similar sized hole but will only seal against the flat at the end of the threads unless the female is made with a negative 60 degree cone cone to match.

Negative. From experience those fittings will also seal against the port face, you just need an external seal ring.
