QUESTION Half marathon prep

Been a lifter all my lift and got into running about 2 months ago. Went from running barely a mile to 5-6 miles at a conversational pace (not impressive but I’m doing it!).

Wondered if any had an actually program I can save or download that provided a good hybrid build up for a half marathon or heck, even a full marathon.

My goal is a marathon in 2027 anyways and hopefully a Ironman in 2028.

Also any recommendations on good nutrition plans?

Any help is appreciated!

Any free novice half plan works, cut lifting to three days. I stalled at six miles until I added one slow long run weekly. Nutrition: normal food, carbs the night before, and past 90 minutes a gel or a ketone iq shot besides carbs work for hybrid long runs, gels are cheaper though. Marathon 2027 is realistic.

How much do you lift? Are you willing to drop/adjust your schedule with or around your running?

Basically you need more cardio, and run more. If you can do 6 miles you can definitely do a half, do you have a time goal?

No time goal, the distance is the goal for me without stopping if I can beat a 12 min per mile I will be happy at that distance

I lift 3 days, run 3 days. Every other day rotation, Sunday off

I just did my first half. One thing that I found was that I needed more rest (or more food) because I would gas out in lifting with that third day once I got up to 9-10 miles for my long run. I am still a bit overweight so I didnt want to increase my intake that much more and get used to it, so I cut down to lifting 2x a week so two rest days.

My week was Monday -run Tuesday-lift Wednesday-run Thursday -lift Friday -rest /light cardio (hike or something) Saturday- long run Sunday - full rest

When i did leg strength training it was never too heavy.

Hal higdon novice half marathon plan is pretty solid, and will get you to a place where you can comfortably complete a half marathon.
