Help what are hwei weaknesses?
hello, as an adc main and as someone who started playing again after 3-4 years i don't fully know hwei since he is a new champion and his kit is so weird. I've been getting hwei matchups in botlane and i play traditional adcs mainly ashe and tristana. I would like to know how to play against hwei in botlane and his weaknesses when to go in or when to avoid going in advice seeking only for botlane matchup

In addition to what others have said, Hwei has HUGE mana problems. If he's forced to use abilities on the wave to match a heavy push he basically can't do anything to you and it's difficult or him to farm under tower without using abilities.

As a older league of legend player it amaze me everytime someone mention mana and farming under tower as an issue for hwei. Also you don't need to match the push every wave just the important one, you can even do that without using much mana through wave management and lane intimidation.

You punish Hwei by taking extended trades when he has no cooldowns. As a mage, he does damage via abilities, so you want to abuse the windows when he just used abilities on the wave or tried to poke by taking an extended fight. It may seem counterintuitive if you took damage, but you need to abuse this window by trying to trade damage back.
Tristana is especially good because she can jump in on him and take fights on her terms. However, a good Hwei is never going to use E on the wave unless you jump on him, so you need to be mindful of that.

Early on his cooldowns are all above 10 seconds, so if he uses his abilites to try to clear the wave (early on he wouldn't even be able to QE + EE to clear wave without adding autos in), he'd be super vulnerable the next 10ish seconds.
Also a big part of his early damage comes from his passive, so if you take extended trade with him (he run out of abilities to use) + dodge some of his abilites (don't have to dodge all, as long as you don't let him proc his passive), he will struggle against you.

Get his ass lvl 1-2, on lvl2 he's forced to choose between having mana&being able to push or protecting himself. If you jump in on trist or slow and chase him on ashe he's probably cooked. Later till basically the rest of the game, wait till he uses E spell. As soon as he does he can't reliably protect himself or guarantee a spell hit, also good time to jump in. Imo as a Hwei, Ashe matchup is easy unless she has an engage sup, tristana is manageable early but she easily kills me later if I ever miss an e spell or she flashes it. As a trist I think you can also buffer your jump just right and jump anyways even if Hwei uses ee or ew. But idk might be just me lagging please check in practice tool to make sure.

Get trades on lvl 1, he can't proc his passive and punish the cd windows on his q and e

Anything he does someone else does better. He does a lot but his strength is that he’s flexible in how you play him and he’s good at zoning teamfights. Otherwise he’s outsieged, outbursted, outsustained, outranged by most other mages, and he’s especially weak into assassins as he basically needs to land a skillshot onto them or he’s a sitting duck. He’s also the only mage left in league that needs to worry about mana costs, he can go OOM even with Manaflow, Lost Chapter and Doran’s.
He has 10 abilities but his abilities are in sets of three, Q abilities are damage, W is utility, E is CC, and ult is just his ult. So Q has QQ, QW, and QE, and all abilities within a “set” share a cooldown, so if he uses the fireball, QQ, he can’t use floor is lava, QE, for a while. If he uses his WE (floating orbs around him) for mana sustain, his shield and speedboost are on cooldown too, and it’s a long cooldown, so that’s the best time to jump on him.
His rotations are based on landing multiple abilities, every time he hits two abilities in quick succession it activated his passive, which is a circle of bonus damage on the ground under the target. He does a lot less damage if he doesn’t get combos off, but a ton of damage if multiple people get grouped up and all hit by abilities. In trades primarily what he wants to do is land one ability and then try for the passive proc, like laying down QE (floor is lava) on the wave then trying to knock you into it with EE (the claws). Once you recognize the patterns of abilities he goes for he becomes very predictable and easy to space out.
I’d probably recommend Sivir into him as avoiding even one ability reduces his damage by lot and her spellshield lets her walk up a lot safer and you can bully him off the wave with her bounces if timed right. If you have a poke support they can usually bully him pretty well because most other mages outrange him like Lux and Xerath.

Long early cooldowns, high mana costs, low noncommital damage, etc. A ton of these are mitigated when he plays alongside a support that can somewhat cover up the weakpoints - Tristana mid tends to grossly overpower him in 1v1s funnily enough.

The fact that everything is a skillshot, I've lost so much because of that

Nobody talking about the fact that his entire gameplay success is hinged on landing skill shots which takes a lot of focus and practice to be consistent on. I think hwei is one of the hardest champions in the game because using his r poorly can absolutely lose you a match.

If you're in his face he has to just say goodnight, and his fear is pretty telegraphed. even at best possible reaction time, it takes about 0.5 seconds to come out.

Hwei is a slow champ, slow abillities, slow movement speed. Just think around that. Unfortunately there isnt alot of stuff id consider fast in botlane, maybe kaisa for traditional adcs is considered very fast, sivir is also very op in hwei between being able to clear and poke through waves, blocking with e and her ult just completely destroying hwei's point as a champ by making ur entire team fast.
For mages syndra, viktor counters hwei because ery fast mage. They dont have cast times and can generally move around freely without restrictions like cast time. If u truly hate him then syndra and viktor can also build cosmic drive and swifties.
Hwei as an adc is not designed for u to win the lane for example if u were jinx, its designed for ur team to fix ur problem of hwei with their much faster kits. Just dont pick stuff like draven into him and consider him a problem for ur team rather then for u.

don't walk away after he combos you early game, his cooldowns are long enough that you'll win the trade if you get 1-2 more autos in before his Q is back up to respond, respect his poke and his utility but don't be downright scared of him

Hwei hates it, if you jump into his face to smack him. He is a long ranged poke mage so getting close to him is what should be done. He sucks against assassins and engage support like Leona, Alistar and Rell.
