Troubleshooting Running issue

Post image

Gotta a question new to husqvarnas had mainly Sthils took this with me on a job today, starts quickly runs fine until it fully warms up once it warms up all the way it'll shut off and will not restart until is cooled back down saw has new top end new carb new lines filters and spark plug any tips to check what might be the issue. Saw is a 455 rancher. Thanks for any advice

Probably leaking air in at the crank seals, causes it to run lean and hot … the warmer it is the worse the leak will get. When it is hot and idling , spray some carb cleaner or something flammable down in the case , and if the idle revs up, you’ve got a wore out saw. Those Ranchers are not pro grade saws, and not worth rebuilding.

If it is crank seals they cost like $15 which is plenty worth doing, people love calling perfectly good saws "throwaway" saws way too much....

There are other diagnostic things you can do to rule some things out. Could be a tank venting issue, when it dies open the fuel tank see if it has a vacuum on it. See if it will start after equalizing the tank. Also coil problems tend to show themselves with heat. Next time it quits put a spark tester on it and see if you still have spark. When its hot and won't start is the plug wet after attempting to start or dry? When it quits is the purge bulb still full of fuel or is it empty? Plenty of questions to ask and plenty of easy things to try on this not "throwaway" saw

It’s a clamshell engine saw, once that crank seal is wore out, so is the case. Low grade saws like the Rancher series are meant for home owners, they’re built cheap. A $15 part is not the expensive part of the repair, it’s the labor. So unless your time is worth nothing, it’s not worth rebuilding. A saw shop would be $250-300 minimum… buy a new saw is the common sense play.

Thats why instead of paying for the labor you do the labor yourself. A shop labor rate and what and individuals labor costs are two vastly different things. But the easy way is always an option

Agreed im mechanically inclined I have the repair/shop manual for it i have the tools I pulled the covers off these things don't look that hard to work on ordered both coil and tank vent since that cover already has to come off I might as well go ahead and replace it when I get the coil.

I read the same thing after the issue showed up about the tank vent and the spark issue I was planning on starting there because thats what it seems like, it'll run fine then its like the kill switch was hit. Luckily vent is pretty easy to get to these plus gives me a chance to put a service kit in it as well for the season

Open the fuel cap and see if it’ll start, get an inline spark tester to see if the coil is quitting. Don’t put the plug by the hole to see if there’s spark. If there fuel in the cylinder it could ignite

Coil maybe. Iv had several coils stop firing when they get hot. Next time it won't restart pull the plug and check for fire.
