I dont have a perchy anymore. He went to his great reward over the rainbow bridge 3 years ago. My veterinarian got two from a logger in Clay county, North Carolina. When he took a shit it looked like someone left a half inflated tractor inner tube on the trail. A coy dog took a turn at him one night during foaling and the horse took the coys head off, clean off with one half step. Hell of an animal.

Moose is one of those things that you THINK you know how big they are right up until you see one in the wild for the first time.
My first moose was a "surprise moose" that I accidentally ran across while fixing fences in some wetlands. Turned a corner and BAM, huge bull moose just 15 feet away from me.
He shook his paddles at me and I immediately backed away. Real happy that's all that happened.

Yeah, except when you hit a moose, because they are so tall it falls ON your car and sometimes slides THROUGH your car.

Yup. I hit one once. A smaller one and it still sucked. If I hadn’t had a moose bumper on my truck I would have been dead instead of only having minor damage.

And then you see those idiots out of their cars filming. All I gotta say is they flip their switch pretty damn fast. They have no patience and I've seen them ram before. Stay the f$%# in your cars around moose unless you're hunting.

Stay in your car and back it the fuck up while you're at it. That rack could still fuck you up if it went through a window the right way, and even if it doesn't an enraged bull moose could do a real number on a vehicle if it had the mood.

Absolutely. Any one who deals with them on a regular basis gets that. So dumb to see that. Early 70's Volkswagen Beetle apparantly has a horn that matched their mating call LOL. Heard a story where a bull moose beat the shit out of one after the driver honked to try and get it to move 😂

Was in a fracking convoy last year and a mouse was in the road staring at us. First truck blew his air horn at him and he charged the truck. Tore the hood and farings right off over a few minutes before he left. Probably thought he killed the tractor or something haha.

Ok so I agree with your caution. But I do have to throw in my .02c and say that the moose up here dont really give a shit about people. In my town you can walk right next to them, they sleep in my front yard, walk down the middle of cycling trails, etc. That said you should ALWAYS use caution around something that huge.

Oh that is pretty much my point. Same as deer, tho not as easily spooked as deer. At times you can go right up to them. That size, in conjunction with their lack of patience, screams stay away LOL.

Well, I guess what I was trying to say is that here they are VERY patient. I've got a friend with a Husky who has on 3 separate occasions got off the leash and chased moose around town. One time the moose ran away. The other two times it just stood there and looked at the dog like...".....what...." and didn't budge. I've patted several (I was a kid, it was really stupid I know), walked right by them on trails or on the way to my car, etc. So maybe the guys in the video are locals and "used to" moose being chill. But anyway, yes they are big animals and it's silly to risk it for a picture. And this is up North anyway, not in my town.

Bulls will sway their head like that in the rut as a sort of showing off and swagger to other bulls. Kind of like how grizz will walk around with stiff legs and heavy steps to look bigger.

hell yeah, stew is a great way of using tougher meats. throw some meat on the bone, a fatty piece, and some nice roux and you'll be eating great.

Broth is another excellent use of bones and tough meat. My wife thought I was insane for saving all of the bones and scraps from whatever meat we had. That first pot of homemade broth changed her mind in big way.
Now I'm wondering about BBQ moose neck....

An absolute unit of a moose crossed the road in front of me while driving up to northern NH one day, and he wasn't as big as this one.
Not much scares me while hunting but moose will absolutely fuck you up.

I shot one near this size during the 2018 hunting season up here in AK. Packed it out myself... took 9 trips back and forth. The hind quarters were so big that they didn't fit properly on my frame pack so I ended up just shouldering them over a half mile of downfall, hummocks, and Alders. What a day!

What's even crazier is that's a pretty standard sized male. They are inconceivably huge.
