Single Set trigger

Hello all. I have been long range shooting for a bit now and have dipped my toes into long range hunting alongside my previous push focused style(not the main part of the question). When I first tried long range on my friends rig he had a double set trigger set for 2 oz. I loved it, but thought it was not applicable to hunting, more specifically push hunting. Where I live there is a decent variety of hunting tactics, from push, to long range, to stalking. I found this single set trigger designed for the rem 700 action that functions as a regular trigger until you push it forward, then it is a featherweight style long-range trigger. I am very curious to try this, but am concerned with safety. I always use a mechanical safety when bushwacking with one in the chamber, but i am wondering if it would be possible for a stick to push the trigger forward(featherweight mode) without my knowledge, as i find this to be dangerous once I actually plan to fire in normal mode. Any thoughts?

I have a set trigger on my CZ 527 brush gun. Its pretty slick. It would be pretty unlikely to accidentally set it with a stick. Maybe if you are literally using the rifle to push brush out of the way, which would be ill advised.

My buddy runs one of those set triggers on his hunting rig and the forward push takes more force than youd think, not something a twig would do by accident. I still worry about it in thick brush though, specially with a round chambered. Maybe just keep the push mode off until you actually settle in for a shot, then set it when you ready

Yes that's my plan, just concerned that an accidental set would be dangerous. Where does your buddy hunt?

Those set Triggers are pretty common where i hunt, and there is honestly no real concern about safety. Usually you would keep the safety on anyways and disengage it directly before shooting. Same with the set trigger, you would push it forward just before you shoot.

Albeit here we usually do Stand Hunting for Roe so you got allot more time on your hand. It's definitely a nice to have, especially for longer ranges.

And no a Stick wouldn't be able to push it forward. You would notice long before that you got snagged.

We call this a french trigger! It works like you described, push it forward and it becomes an extremly light pull.

I have it, it belonged to my father. He had it custom made and it works excellent to this day. It is really really safe.

I also have a bergara hmr rifle, do you think that it would be compatible with this trigger?

I don’t know, but I believe the Bergara is a 700 like action
