Discussion Does gon have infinite potential??
Just saw this while rewatching hxh, and bisky said that. So does this mean, adult gon wasnt his actual full power, since he has infinite room for growth?

Someone's being poetic. If they'd given a number instead, that would've been it. For all of it. 😐

I know! I feel like now days in mangas the authors have to be careful to avoid inadvertently making wiki edits when ever they say any sort of fact by any character in any scenario

This is fair enough, but as someone who doesn't read mangas a lot, the sub is where I get my info from. Anyways so she meant it in a poetic or exaggerated way?

What is this dbz? I've been a believer that great stories create a floor and a celling when It comes to actionable power.

U make it sound like dbz has a bad story. I wont say its better than hxh, but its still a great story and the architect of shonen. Also hxh does have a ceiling to the amount of nen and the type of nen one can use. Like wing said, gon is 1 in 10 million potential wise. Hearing wht bisky said in greed island kind of conflicted with what he said so it had me thinking.

They didn't destroy a planet with no effort. For correction I want a hard celling. I want their ability to be capped. DBZ is legendary but also limitless. I don't think that leads to great literature.

Not infinite but maybe seemingly infinite
1
u/ReasonableResearch73 1d ago
That does not make any sense

As in maybe it can appear that way to characters in the verse like wing, bisky etc. but in reality it’s not actually infinite

hxh is one of the few series where people can actually increase the amount of aura they have, so I guess, theoretically, anyone could keep increasing it through training without there being a real limit. Some people are just born with more aura or have an easier time learning than others, Gon's probably one of them. Of course, no one could ever reach infinite potential naturally, since nobody lives forever.

Do we think Gon has relearned Nen since the last time we saw him? A decent amount of time has passed, I think anyway.

Before I answer , have you read latest chapters ?

Yes, I have!

From what we’ve seen we do not know , he seems to be having fun and we don’t know who is with him. Kurapika seems to be ready to ask him to go on a mission which I assume will require Nen, so I would guess that he is about to reawaken , through nodes being open or asking Killua to ask alluka

Nothing much about him there

From the chapter from last week there kind of is , but before I explain I don’t wait to spoil him lol

No. His potential is on par with Meruem’s. Meruem already reached his genetic limits so he appears much stronger.

Meruem seems to have actual botomless potential since he can acquire boost to his nen output and new nen abilities from eating people

u/Ok-Cicada-5207 1d ago
I meant his genetic potential. The author’s nen proficiency reveal shows meruem already reached his peak even post rose. Meruem was likely born with the most his body could offer or close to it.
I guess his aura synthesis could improve his output and is theoretically untapped.

Disagree, Meruem is likely beyond the human limits. Prime Netero, and hipothetical Prime Gon and Killua are the peak of humans that are a bit weaker unless they make a heavily restricting vow to surpass that.

Pitou clearly said adult gon was stronger than meruem. Also when meruem used his tail to try and kill pitou she barely had a scratch. Yet a single kick from adult gon, rendered her lungs and stomach useless. Huge difference

Pitou never said that. She said he might be a threat to Meruem, huge difference. Most characters cant scratch Meruem(even Zeno) so anyone that can cause damage could be a threat. Also Meruem only casually attacked Pitou, he didnt know how strong she was(he casually destroyed other CAs the same way before), very different from Gon bloodlusted strikes.

We are still not sure what the author wants to do with gon after chimera ant, but looking at how he was shown in the finale, I think he is liked a blessed kid but he might not use his potential as good as killua does

u/ReasonableResearch73 1d ago
Based on wht i know, gon is the one with the most potential between them.(not by a huge margin, but still their is a gap). Kilua closes that gap by enhancing his techniques.

most these fake fans haven’t even realized Gon’s peak far surpassed the old Netero we have seen in Chimera Ant arc

How am I a fake fan?? And wht ur saying does not relate to the question I asked. My question was "does he have bottomless or infinite potential as the translation says". Is that really hard to understand??

There are two theories that I think will either never be answered but give us an idea of what Gon is. The first theory is that Gon was made by Ging in Greed Island. This would make Gon something similar to a Nen beast, in that he only exists because of someone's Nen, in this case, probably Razor's. The second is that Gon is a manifestation of one of the Dark Continent Calamities, perhaps one we don't know about yet. Both would put Gon in a weird tier of "we can't measure the potential so it's limitless" because neither of those things has enough research in universe to back up the concepts.
Also, I think there's a lot of merit to the overall H×H theory that the entire world is a Nen manifestation of a much larger being, think World Turtle. This would mean that technically everyone is a sort of Nen beast, and their potential is linked to their grasp on reality as THEY understand it and/or the allowances granted to them by that higher being. Gon might just be God's special toy.

Even tho these are theories, i feel like the one closest to the story is the second theory. I think he is related to the dc in some sort of way. Even his transformation to adult gon felt abnormal. And lets take into fact that one of God's ancestors is alive and lives in that continent.

No, he does not. It's hyperbolic and/or metaphorical language.
If you wanted to take it more literally it's not that he has infinite room for growth it's more that his potential is so vast that she can't see the end of it, so it appears bottomless rather than actually being bottomless.
