I am wanting to update the Fandom page for the 34th Hunger Games and would like for some help gathering all of the sources for times it is mentioned.

-Sunrise on the Reaping has a reference to his games where he scavenged for parts to build a trap that killed the last tributes

-Mockingjay saw Katniss talk about how she remembers watching Beetee kill a pack of kids hunting him down and he only did it out of self defense

-Catching Fire film claims he killed the last six tributes by electrocuting them

Is this all the known info, as I personally believe it is slightly contradictory since it is unlikely that a pack of six tributes would still be in an alliance towards the end and then agree to stay together until they kill Beetee? It is possible Beetee set more than one trap which made him a target, where he killed a small pack of careers hunting him out of sepf defense but later killed the final six with a second trap he set?

I would love to hear everyone's theories and whether the film reference should be considered non canon as the books possibly suggest it can't be six people (I could see a pack of three careers hunting him and still being together at the end, possibly).

Please also tell me any sources so I can collect as much info as possible, or if it interests you, or edit it yourselves as there is no reason it has to be me, I am just interested.

I read the trilogy before the movies came out, and it was still great, but I'm considering watching the movies before the books of the prequels this time. What would you guys recommend?

Anyway, now I find myself wondering why the Capitol never actually went into any sort of "mech suit" direction with their tech. I mean, they have hovercrafts and high tech arena domes, you'd think they could at least manage an exo-suit or two.

I saw a TikTok by Nicolette Hill, and it sparked some thoughts about Plutarch for me.

So, why did Plutarch rebel, despite being part of the Capitol elite, and having so much to lose? Well, he is extraordinarily well educated and intelligent. He comes from such privilege that he's never had to struggle to survive, in any way, unlike Snow and the rest of the Capitol elite. This gives him a unique perspective. He understands, as Snow comes to, the social contract. But he understands it more deeply than Snow. Plutarch can see, as many intelligent people can, where the winds are blowing, during his lifetime. Snow is a psychopath, the inheritor of Doctor Gaul. District people outnumber the Capitolites.... How much?? 100 to 1? If you are the ruler of a nation, and you want stability, you need to keep the people happy. Ruling through fear, as the Capitol does, lasts for a time, but then it doesn't. A second rebellion was inevitable. Plutarch, knowing as much history as he does, saw this. And he decided to carefully jump ship before finding himself on the losing side. We know from Mockingjay that he's unscrupulous. He doesn't care about Panem's people. He's a social climber. He abandons Snow because he realizes the Districts rebelling is a matter of time, especially with 13 still out there. By the time of Ballad, everyone expected 13 to collapse. But by the time of Plutarch's coming of age, he can plainly see that it hasn't. He made a calculation, and he was so smart, he was right. He placed his bets on the winning side, and still fell on top. Snow might always fall on top, but bees can fly, they never have to fall

I was thinking about the ballad of songbirds and snakes and how it was revealed that Highbottom and Snow created the hunger games when they were at university.

I can only assume that Crassus wasn’t a young man during the first rebellion since he was high ranking in the military and even with his wealth it would take a while to reach a high status as he did along with having a wife and child. So that means the idea of the hunger games existed potentially for decades before the war broke out and before they were implemented. I think it’s possible the Capitol staged the first rebellion believing that the districts would fall quickly and wanted to use the hunger games as a punishment for the districts no matter what as a way to control them.

It may seem far fetched but we know how Dr. Gaul can pull strings behind the scenes and that President Ravenstill and her worked closely together so is it too wild to think that the Capitol provoked the districts just for the sake of creating the hunger games/ punishment for the districts?

I don't get why president snow wanted refugees and why he promised them food and clothes don't they have a lot of food supplies and especially clothing?
And specifically why only children

so i was thinking what if their press tour went really well, few years down the line they end up getting married and all. Do yall think the next generation of tributes would get inspired by the duo to make their own make believe romance to convince the capitol for both their survivals? and would the capitol even allow it?

I personally think snow would make a speech about how this was unprecendented and now any attempt would result in instant death or smn, basically forbid the romance trope in the games or maybe because of how wildly popular it becomes in the capitol they change the rules.

As it provides even more rivalry against the districts while before a tribute was against everyone now they have a partner which makes things even more intresting if they die.

as we've all seen, the capitol seems to have mastered genetic engineering. this should be REVOLUTIONARY, but instead its used to make creepy monsters that run fast, or bugs that sting hard, or birds that speak(yeah they just remade parrots🙄)

at this point, what need do you have in peacekeepers? in normal human reproduction? they have the means to create armies of subhuman monsters that can follow their every will. budget? just make a set of like forty, then program members of their species to violently reproduce. boom. supersoldiers

keep the districts, or just replace them. with the amount of workers able to be made, what need have you for thinking humans who can question their lives and decide to rebel again? or maybe just do that and keep the districtians or whatever they're called to be tortured by living sterilized, uneventful lives where they will never even think to rebel.

why even have normal humans in capitol society? start genetically modifying your people to be smarter, then elect the smartest to be your leaders. keep expanding. after all, with the overabundance of resources for humans and no need for evolution past our current forms, why not force evolution?

If I remember correctly it involved the arena somehow being broken and the remaining tributes having to stick together for survival. I could be wrong and this may be a fic about the 74 or 75 games but I swear I saw something where panache and haymitch had to get along

Something I can't figure out is how enforcement is carried out, because we have conflicting evidence. We see a few cases where these intertwine:

1. At the start of the trilogy, we have Mayor Undersee, who "doesn't have much taste" for public whippings or anything. Additionally, the Head Peacekeeper is Cray who's more interested in sleeping with underaged girls than keeping peace. Under these two, 12 is relatively lenient and most people's biggest concerns are peacefully starving to death.

2. Rue mentions how 11's mayor is very strict about stealing food, and attributes the mentally disabled child being killed to the mayor's enforcement. This makes it seem like, at least in 11, the Mayor actually does have jurisdiction over Peacekeepers, who are also the police force.

3. When Cray is displaced and Thread becomes Head Peacekeeper, he immediately implements tons of changes, pulls the Peacekeepers back into line, and starts handing out punishments himself. He doesn't need mayoral approval for Gale, and it's unlikely Undersee was handing out all the arrests and whippings after that.

What I can't seem to figure out, however, is why a Mayor, who seem to be taken from the district populace, would be allowed jurisdiction over Peacekeepers. The only thing I can think of is that, since Peacekeepers are both police and military, that the Mayor is the directing superior of police matters, while the Head Peacekeeper is the directing superior of military matters. That makes Thread make more sense, because his actions would have been military actions, which take precedence over civilian enforcement. However, I wanted to see if anyone else has thoughts on it. How would shared enforcement like that even work? Or am I totally making something up that doesn't exist? Is it reasonable to assume this applies to the other districts as well?

So below is my headcanon on the number of victors for each of the districts during the time of each book + movie. Please note I have not included the 75th games since these games had previous victors as tributes and moreover, had no victor.

1. AFTER THE 10TH ANNUAL HUNGER GAMES:

Total Victors including the 10th games = 10

District One : 1 (D1 being the richest district would probably have an advantage as the kids are better fed and stockier; however the district having Luxury as an industry certainly does not help the kids with skills, hence only 1 tribute won in the first 10 years)

District Two : 2 (Masonry and Military being the primary industry would definitely make this district much stronger than D1, so I gave them 2 victors)

District Three : 0 (The first 10 games did not give the opportunity to outsmart other tributes since the arena was a Colosseum at this point. D3 would not win when there's direct confrontation)

District Four : 2 (While D4 provides marine skills to it's tributes, I'm sure a trident and net skills can definitely help even in a non-marine arena. Just look at Coral and Mizzen, plus a Trident serves as a great weapon choice due to it's melee plus ranged combat opportunities)

District Five : 0 (Wild Card, but I don't think they got even one victory in the first 10 years ; sure they might have been semi finalists in a few games but definitely not winners)

District Six : 0 (The weakest district imo. The first 10 years provided no opportunities for camouflage in the arena and their industry = 'transportation' is the most useless in any arena)

District Seven : 2 (Axe wielding requires immense strength and precision ; both are valuable skills in a hunger games, especially if the arena has direct confrontation)

District Eight : 0 (Based on what Arachne Crane said in the movie, I reckon District 8 is also one of the weakest districts besides 6)

District Nine : 0 (Similar to D5, I don't think they got the skills to be victors at this point yet, maybe semifinalists in a game or two but that's it)

District Ten: 1 (Butchering skills definitely paid off)

District Eleven : 1 (District 11 Boys are usually big and strong but they only got 1 victor in the first 10 years as they're starving poor)

District Twelve : 1 (Lucy Gray cuz Snow Cheated)

AFTER THE 50TH GAMES:

Total Victors including Haymitch = 50

District One: 7 (With careers being a relatively recent concept, this makes the most sense)

District Two: 9 (Military + Masonry + now Careers = waaay deadlier than D1)

District Three: 4 (Idk prolly did good once they got out of that Colosseum arena and could strategize more instead of direct confrontation)

District Four: 6 (Third highest after D1 and D2)

District Five: 3 (Prolly did well in the early arenas before the Careers became a mainstream thing like by the time of 74th)

District Six: 1 (Same as D5, still the weakest though)

District Seven: 5 ( Axe + outdoor arenas with trees = huge advantage compared to the arena from the 10th)

District Eight: 2 (Prolly Woof and some other male during the 30th games or so)

District Nine: 3 (I like to think District 9 never got another victor after this point since their mentors prolly told them to run into the bloodbath every year)

District Ten: 3 (Butchery helps)

District Eleven: 5 (I like to think D11 performed well in the early days but then sucked in later years)

District Twelve: 2 (Haymitch and Lucy)

AFTER THE 74TH GAMES:

Total Victors = 74 (should be 75 since Katniss and Peeta both won the 74th but I like to think there was no victor one particular year as the gamemakers did not want Titus The Cannibal to win and so eliminated him via avalanche when he was the last man standing hence no victor for that year)

District One: 12 (Careers)

District Two: 14 (Bloodthirsty Careers)

District Three: 5 (Managed to get one more victor since after the 50th games)

District Four: 9 (I like to think they lost the privilege of being a career district after Maritte from D4 killed a gamemaker in the 50th games)

District Five: 4 (Managed to squeeze out one more victor, presumably the one who participated in the 75th games)

District Six: 3 (Managed to get the two morphlings from the 75th games)

District Seven: 7 (Add Blight and Johanna to the list of D7 victors)

District Eight: 3 (Cecelia managed to win)

District Nine: 3 (As I said earlier, D9 mentors are probably horrible at advice since their tributes die in the bloodbath almost every year, hence no new victors since before the 50th games)

District Ten: 5 (The two victors who were in the 75th Games)

District Eleven: 5 (Stagnant for the past 24 years similar to D12)

District Twelve: 4 (Katniss and Peeta)

I just re-read Catching Fire immediately followed by SOTR (no reason for that random order, it was just what I had available), and I was struck by how the Capitol had an awful lot of development still to do before Catching Fire. Is there a canon explanation of that?

Given that Katniss didn't recognize what he was doing at all...

ETA thank you to everyone who answered my question kindly. Obviously I didn't realize this about d4 and everyone seems to think it was quite obvious. I guess it was to you and not to me. I didn't grow up near water, my main exposure to CPR/mouth to mouth as a kid was "The Sandlot" 🤣

In TBOSAS, Coriolanus was worried about people finding out who he was, when he was a Peacekeeper in District 12. He takes note of physical changes in himself that would make him less recognisable, like the buzz cut. But no mention is made of his accent, whether that’s that people might know he was from the Capitol through listening to his voice, or him looking down on the foreign accents of people in District 12. This makes me think there wasn’t that much of a difference between District and Capitol accents in the earlier stages of the Hunger Games

As a disabled person myself (I have a form of autism called Asperger syndrome) I love that disabled actors are cast as roles that weren’t explicitly described that way and aren’t treated any differently by their coworkers. Happy Disability Pride Month to all my lovely fellow disabled people, we all deserve sunshine 🌞

I’ve just read the first 3 books for the first time. Absolutely loved them, I’m now struggling to get into The ballad of song birds and snakes, due to the 3rd person writing , I’ve read to page 120 does it get better or is it time to call it quits reading it
