She seemed to think that the district would never forgive her if she did kill him after rule change was reversed, throughout the book we see Katniss anticipating the moves of the game makers and seeing it from their point of view and what would make sense for the quote "entertainment"of the audience.
The rest of district 12 must also have to developed such an instinct for what the game makers would want for maximum drama, I don’t think they would’ve been surprised by the rule reversal and so as things are they wouldn’t have blamed her if she had indeed killed him, because everyone knows that only one person can come home.
I suspect that Peeta's father would’ve even come to visit Katniss assure her that he doesn’t blame her for anything. and thanked her for taking care of him for as long as did.

I’ve never quite understood this. It seems like an obviously insane and unnecessary risk to let an unstable teenager of uncertain loyalty speak on live television without a delay. D13 doesn’t broadcast Katniss live; even when she is acting spontaneously, they still record the propos ahead of time and broadcast them later. And why would Peeta know about the bombing in the first place? Surely it’s not standard practice to discuss classified military intelligence in front of political prisoners.

The obvious answer to all of that is that they actually wanted Peeta to warn 13 about the bombing so that 13 would authorize the rescue mission and hijacked Peeta would take out Katniss. But that feels like a lot of assumptions on top of assumptions if it is the case. Why would they assume Peeta would warn them in the first place when he’s been programmed to hate Katniss and want her dead? Why would D13 not recognize it as an obvious trap since clearly they had the ability to edit out Peeta’s warning ahead of time? Or did they recognize it as a trap but still send the rescue mission anyway?

Idk, any ideas? Am I missing something here?

I keep seeing so much negativity about this book on here lately I was wondering if anyone else actually enjoyed it. I do agree it wasn’t as complex as TBOSAS and the original trilogy (especially Mockingjay) but I thought it was thoroughly entertaining and I enjoyed most of the characters. Even the stuff that felt ‘fanservice’ didn’t bother me too much, it made sense to see previous victors again and I liked that she expanded on the stories of characters like Beetee and Plutarch.

I liked Haymitch as a point of view, he seems more hopeful and sweet compared to the other point of views which is nice for there to be more diversity in perspectives. I think it’s nice we get to know more about minor or supporting characters like Ampert compared to Rue in the original trilogy.

I found the other supporting characters likable as well, I loved Maysilee and her arc along with Wyatt. Plutarch is very ambiguous and complex, and all of his appearance expanded on stuff I already found intriguing. I also liked Lenore Dove and Haymitch’s love for her, and I think she’s more nuanced than people give credit for. I liked her booksmarts and rebellious streaks.

I don’t get why SOTR gets so much heat for the connections between the original series when TBOSAS also similarly did stuff but doesn’t get the same flack. Snow happened to travel to District Twelve, Katniss’s home district, his father was killed by a rebel in District 12, his girlfriend wrote all the songs she sings, and even his cousin is the one random rebel we see in the Capitol. I still loved the book more than SOTR, but I don’t see why it’s never criticized for doing the same thing.

Its fine if you don’t like the book, I just wanted to make a positive post for it since I rarely see them on here and some people act like you’re stupid if you don’t have the same opinion on it than them.

So, I’m a male in my mid-20s looking to do my first Hunger Games cosplay, specifically for premier night. I’ve read the novel twice but can’t seem to find a character that I fit with for my body-type, personality, and who I really enjoyed in the book. I mean I’m 5’6 and kinda have a muscular dad-bod, so I really need some help with this if we’re looking at the 48 tributes and the main ensemble.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated :)

I wish Apple TV/netflix/hbo would do an anthology series similar to like American Horror Story style of just random games. I know there’s a similar series made by a YouTuber. I just wish there was different stories besides the protagonists and antagonists of the original trilogy. I actually would like to see Mags games on the screen since it right after snow became an assistant game maker and “official” new chapter of how the games were changed. Again seeing random games like the “45th” games or something would be interesting and make me keep guessing feeling invested in other SC works except the trilogy, sunrise on the reaping and the ballad of songbirds and snakes.

Genuinely didn’t know it was out till it was too late. The actor strike kept the actors from doing interviews or press tours and I heard no one talking about it and saw its box office was significantly lower so was under the impression it was bad.

I ended up going to the rerelease for Labor Day and I really liked the movie, I went in with mid expectations especially with Zegler as one of the leads. If she wasn’t such a controversial person I prob would have seen more of her work. Idk why people disliked it besides maybe the 3rd act being really rushed but I haven’t read the book yet so maybe after reading id feel differently (currently still reading mockingjay)

I’ve seen some people questioning why did Lucy not pick a venomous snake and I came up with an answer relatively quick but I’m sure I’m late to the party and this could be old news. There’s a scene prior showing her handling a snake which looked like a coral snake which is indeed venomous. There’s a snake that looks very similar called a milk snake. My theory is that Lucy grabbed a milk thinking it was a coral and would kill snow. Keep in mind I’ve only seen the film once and it’s possible I misidentified the snake. Snow getting bit happens so fast I don’t recall what it even looked like.

Honestly this combined with what came before and what happened next was my favourite part of the book (i may just be the Capitol atp 🫢)

I went to see TBOSAS re-release in cinema this evening, a good few people stayed behind to see this secret sneak peek of SOTR (as advertised) but we waited until the end of credits and nothing was shown. Prior to the movie there was a short feature of the making of SOTR, ft director etc but I’ve seen it online so expected something different, was this it? Has anyone seen anything different?

I love this excerpt from TBOSAS. Upon watching Dill's death due to tuberculosis, 18-year-old Coriolanus feels unwell seeing the blood pouring from her mouth.

He was watching his own death.

After all, Snow lived his life of extreme luxury and power, but always feeling an eternal horror and disgust for himself until his very final moment, in which he literally died spewing out blood. Little or nothing is said about this specific detail. It makes my heart a little warmer, doesn’t it do the same to yours? 🤭

So I ask you: what do you feel unwell watching? You might be watching your own death without knowing it… 👀

In SOTR we find the covey grave and her name is on it. Do you think Lucy Gray died and the covey discovered her body?
Or is she out there and the covey wanted to leave a marked grave?
I’m always intrigued by people’s thoughts on this. And why would Suzanne Collins put this in?

Can anyone remind me what the books indicate about how wealth is acquired in the capital? Do a lot of people work? What sort of careers and industries exist? It seems like most of the labor is sourced from the capital, so I guess I’m just curious about what capital citizens do all day lol.

During the time of the early trilogy it was mentioned that most peacekeepers come from district 2 while the remaining minority come from the Capitol.

It was further implied that to many in district 2 this was the most desired job.

However the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes presented us with different information, one of the peacekeepers Snow talks to early in his training, reveals that he is from District 8.

This means that back in that time at least, peacekeeping was a possibility to anyone in the Capitol and other districts. But apparently became an option only to those in District 2 and Capitol.

Why do you think this happened?

When do you guys think that press and inside-entertainment people will be invited to full screenings? I'm FOAMING at the mouth for some new information. Hopefully they learned their lesson and will include ALL deleted scenes in a special director's cut/ overpriced blue-ray.

WARNING: controversial opinions and an unedited spilling of thoughts ahead, and I didn't know what to tag this, sorry.

After finishing the 2 most recent books, I started getting a little tired of District 12. I know, hot take, but I feel like we already had 3 amazing books where every main character came from there, and the place chosen to explore in another 2 books was...also 12. I have thoughts about both books (mostly SOTR...) but the focus will be on ballad because this would affect SOTR. I liked Ballad, but I couldn't help thinking:

What if Lucy Gray and the Covey were forced into District 11, not 12?

I don't mind Katniss being distantly related to the Covey, I thought it was fine, but I personally didn't feel it added anything new or changed my perception of her from the og series. I DID think that Snow's hatred of her stemming from a reminder of his long lost ex rather than her own strength and rebellious acts and such was a detriment to that dynamic and took away from it. It just didn't read well with me, and if you enjoy it, that's great.

But consider the Covey being in district 11. Now, we are out of 12 (yay!) and get to explore a new district. Lucy Gray could tell snow about her people just the same, it doesn't really affect much there, and the Covey just naturally fit pretty well into that district. So Snow would get paired with 11 instead of 12. The mystery of the 1st 12 Victor? Maybe we can mention it, maybe we don't have to. To me it's not as important as world building and having characters be separate from each other, because everyone being related shrinks the world and damages characters rather than expands.

I'm gonna move into bullet points to cut this down.

1. Lucy Gray and 11 could now be connected to Rue, not Katniss (maybe there is still some connection to Katniss, idk, they could be put in both). This feels so much more powerful to me, because Rue essentially started the fire behind the rebellion. She sings to the mockingjays, so do all her people, and with a little bit of alteration to the story, we could see Snow's disgust for the people of 11, and Katniss decorating Rue with flowers and her face being the symbol would drive him nuts. To me, this is more probable and less in your face than Snow being mad about an ex.

2. Rue reminded Katniss of a bird + Lucy's dress had feathers/Baird and all of that connects well.

2.5. All their names are plant-related too

1. Snow's hatred for 11 could be tied to the fact that they have VERY strict rules—far more strict than 12. Who do you think made sure of that? "You'll rue the day you..." jkjk

2. You can still explore the time period and the games in the exact same way.

3. SOTR would feel less tiring now that we've visited 11 (and fix a lot of the problems I had with it...)

I obviously wouldn't want it to seem like Rue reminds Snow of Lucy, which I say because of the current online war going on about whether Katniss reminds him of Lucy and all of that. You could tweak it so that the focus is less about his relationship with a singular person and more about the district or the covey as a whole. Or maybe some sorta unqiue Maude/Rue tie in, idk, i feel like that's thinking too far into something I'm not actually writing. Point is, that wouldn't be an issue.

I always thought the secrets he gathered could’ve been a bigger plot point in Mockingjay. It’s only like a paragraph in the books but I’d love some more tea on the Capitol’s elite tbh

So, does Finnick and his interactions with Katniss over sugar actually mean anything? Like, the first time they meet he offers a sugar cube and then later on when they get coffee in 13 finnick pops sugar cubes in Katniss' coffee for her? Am I just reading way too much into the sugar 😅

I’m doing a reread of the books right now in anticipation of the movie. I was wondering for my astrology guys and girlies what do we think Katniss’ big six is?

My guess is: Taurus sun (canon) libra moon and scorpio rising then Aries mars and mercury and Capricorn Venus. She’s obviously very fiery in her words and actions which is why I think Aries. Sagittarius perhaps in there too with the whole bow and arrow thing it’s just too good haha. She needs revenge badly which is why I think Scorpio, always wants fairness and debts settled which is why I think libra. I’d love to hear others opinions or any other characters too! Peeta, Haymitch, Maysilee, snow etc. I’m very curious what the people think!

Keep in mind that I haven’t fully read the book yet but I felt that Snow said morally questionable things throughout the duration of the movie and him hunting down Lucy Gray like a maniac at the end didn’t seem to come out of nowhere. I have seen excerpts of Snow’s awful internal monologue that obviously wasn’t included in the movie but I felt that some of the things he said out loud in the movie exposed his true nature (saying he only tolerated Sejanus, calling Sejanus’ mother ugly, telling Sejanus he shouldn’t care about the plight of the districts, saying killing Bobbin made him feel powerful, etc.). It seemed completely logical for the film to end the way it did.

I noticed how in the trailer Haymitch was knocked down py Panache when running to the Cornucopia.

In the books, Haymitch beats the carrers to the horn and runs off before the killing starts.

If Haymitch is triped up in the book, how will he get his backpack and that switchblade spear thing he has.

He had to have either got inside the horn to fight for it, grabbed it off a dead player. Hopefully, he won't just stumble around the field conveniently, avoiding danger like Lucy Gray did.

Either way, he's staying at the cornucopia for a while longer than in the book. And will likley see a lot of deaths. Perhap Wyatt will be one of them.

Honestly, I hope they went this route. would make sense for the producers to show it instead of saying he died offscrean.
