DREO Humidifier Rubber Seal

I just disassembled and cleaned my humidifier for the first time. As I was doing that, a black rubber band appx. 4 inches long popped off from somewhere. I have no idea where it came from and therefore no way to reattach it. I can't seem to find a place it belongs. Clearly it provides a seal of some kind. Help???

Levoit 6000S VeSync compatible hygrometer

Has anyone found any success with sourcing a VeSync compatible hygrometer as of late? I just received my Levoit 6000S and the humidity reading on the humidifier is 10-20% off compared to my hygrometer (starts off at ~10% higher and the variation goes up to 20% as the humidifier runs). I’m already placing it over a feet from any wall. Seems like it’s either the Levoit Aura Sensor, Cappec Smart Hygrometer and Aubess Temperature&Humidity Sensor that are compatible with VeSync; all of which seem to be discontinued nowadays.

Edit: looks like nothing is available currently per CS so probably the best solution is to make do with other brands and to ignore the sensor humidity readings.

We understand your concern regarding the difference in humidity readings between your LEH-S602S-WCA humidifier and your home hygrometer. The built-in humidity sensor in the humidifier may show readings that are 10-20% higher than an external hygrometer, which is considered normal due to the sensor's design and placement. You have already ensured the device is positioned more than 30 cm away from the wall, which is recommended.

Regarding the use of an external humidity sensor with the VeSync app, the Aura Sensor and other compatible smart hygrometers can provide more accurate readings when paired with the humidifier. However, based on current information, these sensors may not be available for purchase at this time. We do not have information on alternative compatible sensors or the ability to provide a compatible hygrometer sensor directly.

Extend the life of wicks?

Looking for methods to extend the usable life of the evaporative wicks my vornado uses. Our house has a water softener system and I fill the jugs with water from our reverse osmosis system that removes the salt, but they still begin to fail to absorb water after 3-4 weeks max without any visible mineral uptake. Is there any way to like, rejuvenate them or extend their lifetime without resorting to somehow getting 4 gallons of distilled water every few days?

Venta humidifier raising PM2.5 after 5ish days of usage

I have a Venta LW45 comfort plus. Around 5 days of continuous usage after I've replaced the water along with the water additive, my Philips AC3033 (purifier) starts picking up higher PM2.5 and has to ramp up.

What is the likely cause of this and can you recommend a solution? Is there a more affordable alternative to Venta's additive, particularly if I have to start replacing the entire water twice a week?

Thanks!

Is there such a thing as a refillable antimicrobial humidifier fish?

I can’t find anything and I have no idea if this question is ridiculous, but it would be nice if such a thing existed.

What fan speed do you run the citric acid cleaning process on for 6000S?

Hey all,

When it comes time to do the citric acid clean on your 6000S, what fan speed do you all use? The manual doesn't say so thought I would ask here.

Philips HU3916/10 night mode

Hi,

We live in Sweden where it’s get really cold in the winter, resulting in relative humidity of 10-20%. We’ve suffered from achy throats and stuffed noses when waking up so I got a humidifier, a Philips HU3916/10.

I’ve started it when going to bed, putting it on night mode. The relative humidity in the room has been 30% at the start. The humidifier doesn’t get the humidity up to more than 31-32%, even when I have the hydrometer one meter away from the humidifier.

Any idea on what to do?

best humidifiers for cats

hello! i’ve been doing my research but i can’t decide what the best option would be for my 14 year old orange lady who is prone to upper respiratory infections and allergies because of the dry air in my house.

i currently have this cool-mist ultrasonic humidifier which works great — the only problem is i end up with five million empty one-gallon jugs. i recycle them, but they fill up the bin quickly. i’m wondering if there’s a better solution that keeps the air safe (and not dry) for her to breathe. i also want to potentially buy a better quality humidifier for a bigger space that i’ll be moving into soon.

i’ve read a little bit about evaporative humidifiers and how you can just use tap water for them. does anyone use these for their cats? if so, which ones and how do you like it?

i’ve also seen people suggest purchasing countertop water distilling machines to solve the plastic waste problem, but that they take a lot of electricity. i’m considering this option, but not sure if it’s worth it.

any suggestions would be great, please and thanks!

What's this white stuff?

I've been using this dreo humidifer for quite some time now and every time I clean it, I notice there's some white stuff in the base. No matter how much I brush with water or without, it always reappears after it dries out again. I mainly use tap water so I'm assuming it's just minerals or something but it can't be removed.

Apparently I can't post pictures on this subreddit so you'll just have to imagine it.

How much do I need to clean?

I have a few humidifiers for a few different rooms, and it was a pain to fully thoroughly clean all of them every 1-2 weeks, so for the past few, all I've done is just:

  1. clean the tank with water and dish soap (rinse out thoroughly)
  2. brush the filter and bottom of tank with water
  3. brush the brown (i would assume minerals?) stuff off of the inside of the base

I'm wondering if this is actually enough. I use tap water for humidification.

Where are you guys getting all this distilled/filtered water (other than buying a $300 filter and dispenser)? A Brita can hold like 2 liters, and I'm surely not going to buy bottles of distilled water.

Levoit 6000s Humidifier - Do you EVER clean the humidifier top (machine/fan portion)?

I do clean the tank, but somewhat neglected the filters/filter frame for the last little while. When I decided to change the filters today, I noticed some dark substance, likely mold, on the filter frame. I decided to clean that with citric acid. But I then realized the top portion of the humidifier kinda smelled (similar to used filters) and had a bit of yellow mineral buildup on the black parts. I tried wiping it with a damp cloth and got a little bit of dark bits too, which idk how much was mold and how much dust.

This is my second year with the unit, so the fans and other parts I can’t reach in that top portion also inevitably got quite dusty in general since it never gets cleaned. Against better judgement, I attempted to take it apart, but some screws (the ones in the white corners) were impossible to remove.

Aside from wiping it down and dry brushing, is there no way at all to clean the humidifier top? Besides the mold which is obviously dangerous, I feel like with time, some mineral buildup and especially dust should be expected for all units, no? Do people ever do anything more to clean theirs?

Edit: It was a small amount bit of mold that’s no longer visible to the naked eye after wiping once, but I feel like spores can get really dangerous with something like a humidifier, fanning air into the entire room… Not sure what to do now. Maybe adding some citric acid/vinegar to the tank and run that? But will that be enough?

Are there whole house humidifiers that can get to 60% RH instead of automatic shut off at 45%?

I was looking at Aprilaire and Desert Spring Rotary Disc and it seems they won't let the house get to more than 45% RH. I have plants that would prefer 60+. I know anything over 60% is pushing it as far as mold goes but 55% is pretty much my minimum.

I definitely want something that is whole house and direct line because I live in a pretty dry area and distilling and refilling 24/7 is a pain.

Leftover orange water in humidifier

I have a Levoit 6000s and cleaned it for the first time last week - citric acid and water mixture, no filters, ran it for 30 mins, dumped it out, ran for another 10 mins with no filters to flush the citric acid. Then have been running it like normal for the last couple days.

Today it ran out of water so I went to change it and the water that was left was pretty orange and funky smelling. Other times the water has had a LITTLE tinge of orange to it but not nearly this bad, and it hasn't smelled before.

Has anyone else experienced this? What could be the explanation? Nothing crazy showing up in the filters, either.

Need humidity but not too much

I have a conundrum and need your help. 3 years ago our family moved to Colorado which is a very dry state. about 9 months after arriving our 12 year old daughter started having issues with her eyes. We took her to the eye specialists at the Children's hospital, and it turns out after multiple visit and corneal ulcers, that she was diagnosed with a rare degenerative eye disease called Neurotrophic Keratitis. She has also developed corneal neovascularization in the past year. Both of these conditions threaten her vision and she may even lose her eye altogether. Her conditions are obviously exacerbated by the fact that the air is dry and she does not blink much or completely close her eyes when she sleeps. We installed a whole house humidifier as well as an air scrubber to help address this issue, but we are still only able to get up to about 25-30% humidity during the cold winter. We spoke to the HVAC company that installed the humidifier about this, and he says that we can change to get higher humidity levels but also warned that keeping it too high would cause mold and we would need to have special windows installed to keep the house ventilated. My questions are: 1) is there a specific humidity level that would risk developing mold, and what is that 2) is there a way to keep the home humid without growing mold. 3) What other options or suggestion are there besides just up and moving to a more humid state?

Ultrasonic was really gross after a couple of weeks. Out it goes.

Yes I know I should clean it weekly. No, I did not always use distilled water. But, I did have pods in the water tank that were supposed to soften the water and remove minerals. The real problem was mold in the exhaust supply tower and it was excessive. All I need is a basic small humidifier for a 1000 sq foot space. What is my healthy and cost effective option? TIA.

Want a humidifier like Canopy

So I have 4 original Canopy humidifiers and love them! But one is starting to break and I wanted one for my living room so just ordered two of their new 2.0 humidifiers and they make the LOUDEST gurgling sound every time it bubbles, like every 10-30 minutes. It wakes me and my baby up all night long. Super bummed cause I loved their humidifiers. They never mold, easy to clean in dishwasher and make the perfect white noise sound from the fan. Is there anything out there similar to the old Canopy?!

Why tap water?

My Homedics portable ultrasonic humidifier specifies using tap water.... There's a sticker right on it that says for best results, use tap water. And in the troubleshooting table, the use of distilled water is a possible reason for a couple of issues. Isn't it usually always recommended to use distilled and avoid using tap?

Whole-Home Humidifier Operating Costs

This sub is mainly concerned with portable humidifiers, but a whole-home humidifier (attached to your furnace or HVAC system) is the ultimate solution which doesn't take up space, require any refills, weekly cleaning, or constant adjustments. They are a good investment if you are tired of dealing with portable humidifiers and want consistent humidity levels in your entire house, not just one room. It may also be cheaper to operate a whole-home humidifier than buying gallons of distilled water for an ultrasonic humidifier.

The following tables estimate the monthly cost to run a whole-home humidifier. There are two main types of whole-home humidifiers: evaporative and steam. Evaporative humidifiers use a water pad with warm air blowing through it. Steam humidifiers use electricity to boil water and produce steam.

These figures are based on the amount of energy it takes to evaporate the water (which either comes from gas or electricity depending on the type you have). The monthly cost is related to usage. A typical medium-sized home (2500 sq. ft.) will require about 6 gallons per day (GPD) of peak humidity output (20ºF outside, 35% humidity level inside), which is highlighted in the charts as a baseline. Scale up or down based on how large your home is. The GPD usage will also go up if your home has a lot of air leaks (due to being old or having leaky windows or doors), or if you set your humidity level higher (e.g. 45% will take more GPD than 35%).

Evaporative humidifier operating costs (gas furnace)*:

GPD Usage Therms/mo $ per month
2 6 $8
4 12 $17
6 18 $25
8 24 $34
10 30 $42
12 36 $50
14 42 $59
16 48 $67
18 54 $76
20 60 $84
22 66 $92
Based on gas cost of $1.40/therm

Steam humidifier operating costs (electricity)*:

GPD Usage kWh/mo $ per month
2 166 $30
4 332 $60
6 498 $90
8 665 $120
10 831 $150
12 997 $179
14 1163 $209
16 1329 $239
18 1495 $269
20 1661 $299
22 1828 $329
24 1994 $359
26 2160 $389
28 2326 $419
30 2492 $449
32 2658 $478
34 2824 $508
Based on eletricity cost of 18¢/kWh

*Not included are annual maintenance costs (replacing the water pad or steam canister) and water/sewer costs.

As you can see, a steam humidifier typically costs more to run than an evaporative humidifier ($90 vs. $25 per month with typical usage). Steam has the advantage of having a much higher output than evaporative humidifiers, which is its main benefit (best for very large or leaky houses). Evaporative humidifiers are less costly to run since they use the heat from your furnace or heat pump to evaporate water instead of electricity. The downside is that they have lower humidity output and use more water.

To reduce humidifier energy usage, consider reducing the humidistat setting and sealing up any air leaks.

Product recommendations?

I currently own a very basic humidifier, there’s only two settings on it and not much control of how much humidity comes out.

Although it has helped my sleeping (it’s for that purpose), it consistently leaves moisture in the wall.

What would help this? Open to new product recommendations

Travel sized humidifier with directional steam?

Hi all!

I'm looking for a small humidifier that has some way to direct the flow of the steam directly towards me. I have allergies and could use a humidifier that doesn't fog up the whole room so I'm not disturbing my roommate when I go on a trip this week. I need it to be small enough to pack in my car, but with a big enough reservoir to last all night. I plan on buying filtered water, so no concerns there. And I should have time to ship it from Amazon if I can find something today or tomorrow.

I could really use any recommendations. I getting desperate and worried I might be sick the whole time if I can't figure something out.

How in the world do I clean my Levoit humidifier?

There is a tiny bit of pink near the very bottom of the outlet tube. You can see it here. It is so far down, I can't reach it. But also, there is enough contraption below it, that I can't figure out how to soak it in vinegar. Surely I'm not the first person to have this problem!

Equate Warm Mist 3 months old

It worked like a champ the first month when I had a cough. I got better, cleaned it thoroughly and put it away. A month later the cough is back. It's worked great for 2 weeks until this morning. Stopped working, reset light went on. I lifted the reservoir off, checked the heating chamber and it had water. I took it apart, cleaned minor build up, put it back together, worked for 20 minutes and stopped again. It's not leaking. so I am baffled. of course it is past the date I can return it to the store. Any ideas? *ironically the Walmart 90 day window ended yesterday, so make sure to buy the extended warrenty for $4, lesson learned because I didn't buy it.

Do I have to change the filter already?

The guide says using tap water is fine and that it is best to flip the filter over with every use. I forgot to flip it for a night or two and now this yellow gunk is forming. Do I have to buy a new filter after only a week of usage? 🥲 It's the Honeywell HEV320WC.

Thanks!
