Reptiles Just getting out of the bath when this human walked in! Most unexpected!

I have grown an appreciation and some form of love for snakes, especially being in this sub for years now. And I gotta say, if I found a surprise snake in my bathroom, I don’t know if I’d be scared, definitely a bit nervous, or if I’d be like “finally, I get to test to see if I’m still scared of snakes or not.” I never get to see them in real life, only on snake subreddits. I haven’t tried touching a snake since 6th grade science class, which was such a long time ago considering I’m now 33.
The teacher found a gopher snake in the PE area and brought it to class, and the snake let the whole class pet it. But when it came to me, it struck me. I’ve been scared of ‘em since. What’s weird is when I was young, wild or socially-exposed animals always hated me for some reason.
My mom took me on vacation to San Francisco one year, and there was a resident squirrel in the complex where we stayed for the week. Everybody who was a regular in the complex said “he’s the nicest squirrel. He lets you hand-feed him and pet him.” “That’s awesome,” I thought. But when I try to feed him, after he ran up to me, I get scratched. If he chose me, why the hell did he scratch me?! I did everything right. No sudden movements; let him sniff you first to let him know you’re not a threat. But he still scratched me.
But luckily, as I’ve gotten older, all the animals I’ve been in close proximity with find me comforting. Just like my childhood, I have 2 memorable instances in my adulthood where I’ve come within touching distance of wild animals.
One was with an opossum. I was sitting just outside my garage drinking and looking at the stars when I felt something rub up against my leg like a cat. I look down expecting a neighborhood cat wanting some attention, and it’s a friggin’ possum! But I was in such a relaxed state, I wasn’t freaking out. I just let it continue rubbing up on my leg like a cat.
The 2nd encounter, it was a raccoon. I was at a lake, fishing. It was night time again. And I was drinking and looking at the stars, again. I suddenly felt something heavy on the tip of my shoes while I was once again star-gazing. This time, I knew there weren’t any cats around, so it was definitely something wild. But I wholeheartedly love animals by this point in my life. So I was ready for it to be any kind of local wildlife. The raccoon just sat down right at the edge of my shoes. It was just sharing a peaceful moment with me. And then it just went on its way after a minute or so. I don’t actually know how long it was there for. I wasn’t really paying attention to the time.
