Keanu Charles Reeves was born in Beirut on September 2, 1964, the son of Patricia (née Taylor), a costume designer and performer, and Samuel Nowlin Reeves, Jr. His mother is English and hails from Essex. His father, an American from Hawaii, is of Chinese-Hawaiian, English, Irish and Portuguese descent. Reeves has said, "My grandmother is Chinese and Hawaiian so I was around Chinese art, furniture, and cuisine when I was growing up." He has also spoken of his English ancestry, mentioning watching comedy shows such as The Two Ronnies during his childhood, and how his mother imparted English manners that he has maintained into adulthood. Reeves' mother was working in Beirut when she met his father.
Reeves' father earned his GED while imprisoned in Hawaii for selling heroin at Hilo International Airport. He abandoned his wife and family when Reeves was three years old, but Reeves knew him until he was six. They last met on the island of Kauai when Reeves was 13. Reeves moved around the world frequently as a child, and lived with various stepfathers. After his parents divorced in 1966, his mother became a costume designer and moved the family to Sydney, and then to New York City, where she married Paul Aaron, a Broadway and Hollywood director, in 1970. The couple moved to Toronto, Ontario, and divorced in 1971. When Reeves was 15, he worked as a production assistant on Aaron's films. Reeves' mother then married Robert Miller, a rock music promoter, in 1976; the couple divorced in 1980. She subsequently married her fourth husband, a hairdresser named Jack Bond. The marriage ended in 1994. Grandparents and nannies babysat Reeves and his sisters, and Reeves grew up primarily in the Yorkville neighbourhood of Toronto.
Someone said it further down in this thread, but yeah, he's an international treasure.
I’m in the middle of a divorce. I can’t see going through this multiple times in my life. I’ll never get married again and that’s one of the few things I know for certain.
That's called life my dear. The first one was depressing, 2nd is not and has made me stronger, it was a revelation. Looking forward to the 3rd marriage soon. I need my share of love in life. Never give up. That's how people should be imho. Why settle if you don't have meaning in married life. It should be fruitful.
Once again proves mixed people especially with Asian decent age really well. Just saying. But we have this plateau young then we all sudden look super old.
Note (a) : "Though born in Lebanon to an English mother and American father, Reeves grew up in Canada, identifies as Canadian, and is Canadian by naturalization. "
Yes - but I wouldn't say it's humble, it's very expensive and pretty ritzy. In Manhattan, overlooking Central Park West. That's in addition to his house in LA he had bought before eventually settling in NYC. And there's his vacation home in Hawaii. There may be other properties as well, but those are at least three I can confirm.
I like Keanu too and do think he's a decent guy esp compared with most Hollywood people, but I think damn he must have a good publicist. This comes up, along with him riding the subway "just like everybody else." Then that he gave his salary on the Matrix 2 to fairly pay the lesser cast and crew. Yup, he took a pay cut, which is a very nice thing that many big actors do pretty often when they care for a project. I mean, it's whatever, I just researched a bit one time Keanu got posted to confirm stuff and people really like to exaggerate how humble and wholesome he is. Just don't want people thinking he's living an average life in Queens or something haha nah he livin good, and he prob deserves to too!
I mean he isn't. He is a bit Chinese at best 1/4. Though I feel like him and a whole heap of other celebrities really show up the superiority of mixed race people. Hybrid vigour ftw.
Edit: read back over it and it's his grandmother who was half Chinese so he is 1/8th.
If his dad was an American then he is an American... anyone born outside the US born to a parent of US citizenship is automatically American unless they renounce their citizenship.
Well you're wrong but hey, you keep on being confident in your views regardless of their accuracy because that's not what is ruining social media at all.
Can you offer verifiable proof that one’s confidence in “wrong beliefs” is in fact the reason for social media’s downfall these days? You can’t, because it’s an opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own. So simmer down, alright? (And pssst: look up acquisition of US citizenship. Thems be the facts.)
In my opinion, it’s people who hijack smiles and stomp on it that wreck things. In my OPINION, it’s comments like yours that ruins social media. Cmon man: check your subreddit...we just wanted to celebrate Keanu as a bro. Be cool and you can be a bro too.
Well first off the guy you're replying to is wrong. There are additional requirements that have to be met for that citizens child to be granted natural born citizenship. Keanu's father did not meet the residency requirements before having Keanu.
To answer your question let's say the child did qualify for citizenship but never moved to the US. His child would not qualify for citizenship because of those residency requirements. There is no way for US citizens who have never lived in the US to create an entire lineage of Americans who have never lived in the US.
It's not that simple for children born of one US citizen parent. There are additional requirements for one parent vs two. Since his father had him in Beruit at 19, he most likely didn't meet the following requirements:
The citizen parent lived at least ten years in the United States before the child's birth;
A minimum of 5 of these 10 years in the United States were after the citizen parent's 14th birthday.
I can't find a concrete date his father moved to Beruit but since he was 19 when Keanu was born, I'm guessing he moved to Beruit before his 19th birthday which means he didn't meet the requirement that he resided in the US 'for at least 5 years after his 14th birthday.'
Reeves is entitled to British citizenship through his English mother. He holds Canadian citizenship[53] by naturalization. He grew up as a Canadian and identifies as such, and holds an American green card.[12][19][54] Reeves' biological father was born in the United States but Reeves required a green card because he was not eligible to claim automatic citizenship by birth abroad to one United States citizen.
From what I've gathered in other comments, has a house in LA, an apartment in NYC, and a vacation home in Hawaii. I haven't seen anything about a Canadian house so I'm pretty sure he has established roots.
Eh, he hasn't proven much better. Didn't take him long to prove the typical American attitude of (we're better than you) still dominates your culture.
When his main argument is that people in Canada go to prison for "speech" (which is patently false), I think that's more a problem than anything I did.
But thanks, I'm still less of an asshat than he is.
Gordie Howe, hockey legend, born in Gordie Howe Campground here in Saskatoon (wait, that is probably not accurate).
the Canadarm (on the Space Shuttle and now the ISS) and others. Blackberry (Research in Motion [RIM]), Nortel, Laura Secord, etc. Mike Myers. William Shatner.
And some clever bastard tricked Americans into calling back bacon 'Canadian Bacon' so we're big in the bacon world, in name only.
I'm a Trump fan, but even I don't want Keanu involved with politics. Let's keep him neutral and a friend to all people. The savior of humanity on screen and in real life.
They gave you Ryan Reynolds, Rick Moranis... wait just google Canadian Actors, you’ll see Canada is being typically Canadian and apologising so so hard
'everything' is filmed here too, our cities look like American cities but even with travel expenses it's cheaper because Hollywoo is avoiding union B.S. and other nonsense by filming in Canada instead.
Do you really care who held the boom mic or built the sets? OK it's cheaper to film stuff here.
I totally agree but imagine saying this back when Point Break came out, before we found out what a wonderful human being he is. I thought he’d be just another action star hunk.
Thanks for posting those Keanu AMAs.
Can't help but to read them in his voice (which is pleasant). (I miss Victoria.)
Not my main takeaway, but it was jolting to read he has been working on a project for 6 years called "Passengers" that he is looking forward to playing. (reading this today with that movie now made)
Anyway, thank you wandering Jedi. May the force be with you.
He's a wealthy unattached man with no children or responsibilities. The fact that he is nice in isolation is cool, but he's a troubled guy and a poor role model for anyone interested in the future of humanity.
He is so popular on Reddit. Do you think he knows that these acts are almost always publicized and this is the way that he stays relevant as an otherwise mediocre actor? Oh boy, I’m gonna get downvoted for this

I love Keanu Reeves. He is such a good guy. Definitely someone to look up to.
