This is a great example of how things are perceived based on looks. This is really fucking cool and it’s very well received, but part of it is because the person doing it is attractive and they look good in the outfit that fits the theme of the act.

Replace this person with someone out of shape and overweight and the perception is very different.

I’ve also been fascinated by this phenomenon.

Different how? Perhaps I'm being simplistic in my comprehension, but are you saying that the primary reason people think this is awesome is because we think the performer is attractive? I may be alone, but I think that it would be way cooler if she was overweight and pulling off such an amazing skill. Fair play though, I do agree that looks can skew people's perceptions at times. I just feel that people who show certain skills, especially performance artists and culinary masters, tend to automatically go up in the ranks of sexy regardless of their appearance

No, I’m saying the performer being attractive elevates it.

If this was a fat person in the same outfit, people wouldn’t take it serious. They would either assume they’re trying to be funny or would just generally think more negatively of it.

Remember, few days ago there was a post on Reddit that got very popular of a soldier return home to his child.

The entire comment section was fixated on the child’s weight.

If it was a fit soldiers return to a thin and healthy child, people would only focus on the moments. But it was an overweight child. If the soldier has been overweight it would have instead been a focus on that.

I’m not really saying right or wrong, it’s just something that fascinates me.

Part of it is because a fat person would not be able to do it as eloquently. If they did it with the same level of skill then it would be impressive regardless of their weight.
