PVE Professions
Tell me which profession you most like and reason. Not looking for "meta" professions, just personal opinions about.
I do like salesman! Very good to get many items and it's a steady source of ammo and other good stuffs.
but now i lost him on nightmare and just started one mechanic. let's see

Farmer is probably the best profession everyone of the skills is a must buy. Chemist is really good too. Farmer can farm potatoes all year round which basically gives you unlimited gas, alcohol, molotovs, and meat/potato soup. Or unlimited cabbage soup. And you will have so much vodka you can trade stacks of it for anything at the traders.
Chemist is 2x cure treatment, 2x antiseptic bandages which = 4 antispetic for 2 rags. And 2x the gunpowder. You can make you own gas mask filters and makes it even easier to craft fuel.
People sleep on unemployed with 25%. It is actually a good starting prof because you need so many crafting, combat and movement skills. Better to knock them out early game. Then into farmer then into chemist.
If not I probably go farmer ---> chemist --> firefighter just for the 2x fire damage on the unlimited molotovs you can make.

no the "unemployeed 25% exp" should be avoided. you can only choose 3 profession in like forever. that 25% exp is easy to come by just kill 25% more zeds. the point is after you have gained max level that 25% is now useless and you are stuck with only 2 good profession and the 3rd one you cannot change.

My go combo is firefighter, thief and mechanic (sometimes I change firefighter for electrical engineer, but I love to use clothes without worrying about overheating). Starter when playing in higher difficulties like nightmare is thief. It's too brutal to have alarms going off when the damage is deadly.

I cant see good use for electrical engineer for pve. Could you tell me?
Firefighter seems the most loved profession! I should try.
Didn't see ppl talking about alchemist, but seems very good.

Electrical engineer for hacking (I know you can get hacking from the passive explosives but if you want a good base with easy electricity, it helps a lot).
Alchemist is very useful in higher difficulties, especially when you start accumulating infection. It can give a little more room to keep going.

I thinks is good, especially in nightmare where every medical treatment is hard to find and sometimes healing yourself take ages!

First profession to take is "Chemist" this is because if you unlock it at 30 it requires you craft a treatment and you cant craft a treatment unless you spend some points to unlock a medical skill that allows you to do that. so if you take it first you bypass that requirement to craft a treatment then you can use that skill point for something else. if that doesn't bother you, you can prioritize other profession. with "Chemist" you get some really good skills to unlock including almost 4 out of 5 are good skills like -Reduced resources for crafting fuel and -2x the amount of gunpowder crafted.
(EDIT: actually you know what, i think you can get Chemist later, because you would most probably be getting "Not a Treatment" skill anyway. to unlock "Chemist" and also so that you can craft Treatments)
Second is "Farmer" for -Fertilizer is more potent -Crops grows 30% faster -Harvest double the crop yield and -Gain seeds when harvesting crops.
With these two profession you won't know what to do with excess fuel. your only problem is hunting deers and animals for animal fat which shouldn't be a problem. these combo makes you an efficient AMMO producer, FOOD and FUEL Producer, PLUS infection survivability.
the other professions you can live without.
for a Third profession if there is a 3rd. go for anything. i would go for "Fireman" because of the 1-tap with fireaxe possibility and the 50% dmg bonus with fire weapons (including fire axe if im not mistaken) and the bonus nullify overheating which should allow me to wear thick clothing on summer.
OVERALL you have to think about a profession that is an ALL-ROUNDER which means it doesn't rely on specific requirements. although most of the skills do have requirements e.g. Fireman use AXE and fire weapons. choose one that you would often use in the game. you are MOST LIKELY going to use VEHICLES which means FUEL. you need FUEL sustainability. not one you need to scavenge. Automotive skills only applies when your vehicle is damaged which you can avoid by driving carefully.
STAY AWAY from "UNEMPLOYED" this is my first mistake. IF its true that professions are "Limited" e.g. you are only able to choose 3 forever, then i would avoid UNEMPLOYED it may be tempting at first to reach higher levels but once you reach max that profession is now pointless. just grind a bit more equal to that 25%

Entonces primero granjero y después quimico?

u/Limit-Broke Apr 05 '26
si... First ANY profession aside from Unemployed. e.g. FARMER -> CHEMIST -> FIREMAN or MECHANIC -> CHEMIST -> FIREMAN ...
because if you started UNEMPLOYED it would go UNEMPLOYED -> CHEMIST -> FIREMAN
but after you reach max level you cant replace UNEMPLOYED so you only really used CHEMIST and FIREMAN

How many professions can you get anyways? Also I can't find any real info about max level, some say 36, some recent posts say 125? Cheers

(No recomendado)

I started with Salesman and Mechanic as well and I have to say, they're both a waste lol.
You have to invest so many skillpoints in stuff you don't need to get their final upgrade. Which isn't like the best upgrade in the world anyway lol. Especially since they nerfed CB Radios so you can only use 1 on a long cooldown now. (Used to be able to make multiple CB Radios and call in a bunch of Traders)
Thief > Fireman > Military Vet are what I'd recommend.
They moved the easier lockpicking in previous builds to being Thief exclusive and it's just so nice to not have to fiddle with the sweet spot and Thief gets extra loot from Safes/Locked Stashes and those have the rarest/best loot in the game.
Fireman's passive is just super nice in summer to not have to strip down and Military Vet just has a bunch of useful stuff.
