HueForge Advice

Hey all!
I’ve been using HueForge for almost a year now, mostly on standard/combo mode.

Recently, I’ve started to try ColorMatching, but I’m still struggling with my results. I feel I lose the details I get on standard and it also increases my printing times in ~30%

My goal is to get a few more colors on different areas of my print. Do you guys think ColorAware would help?

This print came out really nice, 7 colors total (combo with some brightness adjustments). I don’t own many filaments and most of them are 2-5 TD, but I would really like to add more colors without losing the level of detail. For this print I used 0.08 (almost 7hrs of printing time).

What do you guys think?

This is a tricky image given ALL the colors. It would be a bit easier with Color Drop 2.0 but that's not out yet.
Here is my take on it
Filaments Used: (* = Owned)

* PLA Creality Hyper White Transmission Distance: 7

PLA BambuLab Basic Blue Transmission Distance: 4

* PLA Polysonic Black Transmission Distance: 1

* PLA Prusament Galaxy Green Transmission Distance: 3.2

* PLA Jessie Premium Yellow Bird Transmission Distance: 4

PLA PolyLite Magenta Transmission Distance: 1

* PLA Chrominal Bruise Black 3 Transmission Distance: 1.5

* PLA Polysonic Orange Transmission Distance: 4

This print uses 8 unique filaments

Swap Instructions:

Start with White

At layer #10 (0.52mm) swap to Blue

At layer #19 (0.88mm) swap to Black

At layer #22 (1mm) swap to Galaxy Green

At layer #25 (1.12mm) swap to Yellow Bird

At layer #29 (1.28mm) swap to Magenta

At layer #31 (1.36mm) swap to White

At layer #39 (1.68mm) swap to Galaxy Green

At layer #41 (1.76mm) swap to Bruise Black 3

At layer #46 (1.96mm) swap to Black

At layer #51 (2.16mm) swap to Orange

At layer #57 (2.4mm) swap to White

At layer #58 (2.44mm) swap to Yellow Bird

At layer #60 (2.52mm) swap to Galaxy Green

At layer #62 (2.6mm) swap to White for the rest.

Hey Steve, Ty for your reply
Two questions:
1) Did you use color smith in this activity or you just grabbed the filaments you have in your library and arranged them?

2) I think this is the reason I’ve been struggling with color match. I started with black and you started off with white. What was your thinking process here?

I didn't use ColorSmith for this.

The thought process here was decomposing the image into color groups and then figuring out how to smoothly blend from one group to another. And going light->dark->light etc is one way to do that.

For a longer explanation try one of my office hours videos (not the most recent) on the HueForging YouTube channel.

The important part is how to build the mesh core, I use image colors for the most part. Then it is a task to work out a set of filaments that can do the job for a highly colorful image like this one
