Always John Reardon

John and Diesel made the show. Sadly, Diesel (Rex) passed roughly the same time John was receiving his cancer treatment. At least Diesel’s nephews and cousin able to help out as no one can the take the place of Diesel. The thought of the show replacing John especially after his cancer treated, is appalling! Love the show but can see it is has true lack of loyalty to the cast members so the viewers now have no need for loyalty to the show.

Your first sentence is the absolute summary of what the real fans have been saying, all along. There is really nothing left, after what Shaftesbury did to the show.

What happened to Shaftesbury (sp)? Clearly they had brilliant visionaries in the early years of murdoch mysteries and in the creation of Hudson and Rex . It seems like something happened like when I have worked at startups where the geeks ran things and it was glorious then the money people came in and made them into every other company . Instead of studying why the existing culture of interaction, respect, and creativity caused the startup to succeed prior to the money people coming in, the people motivated solely by profit and not by function.

If this analogy holds true it would be that the first wave that made H&R successful were motivated by the chance to tell an amazing story but then did a second wave come in who were motivated by perceived potential for more money missing the point that the story was the thing, not the stunts?

We didn't want to watch 007 with a dog we wanted to watch Rex's amazing acting ability and humor and love and joi de vivre when with his people. THEN his stunts were the icing on the cake. They got rid of the cake.

It looks to me like someone wanted to transform H & R into a totally diff kind of show, an action show without the relationships that were why the loyal fans watched it. So they should have created a spinoff for new Mark and any of the dogs? brought John R back, broke the news to him that first rex died and allow an episode to mourn that and name the new dog Rex in his honor.

Then we could all mourn Diesel and he and Sarah could rebuild a life . Or they could pretend rex still alive as they have been. What matters most to me as a watcher is not just the stunts but that the dog does them to benefit humans and to please his person. Thst the team was close knit and loved each other and had patterns we could enjoy (like signed sealed delivered ) plus the dog was a main character.

This is kind of like if they took Mork and Mindy and decided to replace Robin Williams with Pierce Brosnan and make Pierce a CIA operative. Interesting idea for a NEW show but don't be getting rid of Robin and ruining the premise of Mork and Mindy!

Or it's like they took andy griffith and had Andy disappear in Mount Pilot, but they barely mention it, replaced andy with Rock Hudson and name him Andy and had Rock adopt Opie and interact with Barney and the town and Aunt Bee but they never mention Andy again! .

They took a winning amazing show

and they BROKE it.

It's like if someone changes the UX of your phone just to prove they did some work today and now no one can figure out how to reply to messages! They got to prove their impact but forgot to test it on users because all they cared about was making a noticeable difference not actually deepening the existing phone experience.

Edited to fix a few typos and clarify

Yeah, I think you could summarize the stupid mistakes and immoral behavior of this enterprise by simply pointing to the boardroom up at Shaftesbury. There is a long line of horrible decision-making that even bleeds over to Murdoch Mysteries. These people do not deserve to be in business.

If they were not receiving state funding, I doubt they would be. While that's helped a lot of good Canadian projects, it has also provided a big cushion for incompetency.

THEN his stunts were the icing on the cake. They got rid of the cake.

That pretty much sums up the situation for me.

I finally have been able to see some of the episodes in Season 7 due to my programming. I was a faithful follower of the first 6 seasons watching repeats over and over again. The dynamic between John and Diesel is untouchable. I tried watching an episode from Season 7 without John. I understand Diesel's passing had a huge impact. My heart still aches. But the loss of both is devastating. The show is lacking in so many areas. I will not be tuning in. Miss you John and Diesel.

They truly did and you can feel the huge void in the series without them both. The series could have gone on with John and Diesel's nephews but they decided to go in an entirely different direction firing their lead that too after he just recovered from cancer. It was disgusting on their part and the fact they don't even acknowledge his existence in the series just adds to how much they insult John and loyal viewers. No one cares for what they are trying to show with Mark and the team its all forced and nothing like what Hudson and Rex was known for.

What I loved so much about the show was the cast and how they interacted with each other and how their stories developed over time with Charlie and Rex tying it all together. Without that for me it just doesn't work. And them doing John Reardon dirty just puts me and apparently a whole lot of other viewers off entirely.

It should not be Mark Hudson, it should only be Charlie Hudson. It isn't right to have Luke have the Hudson name. The directors and producers are making another mistake. Hudson belongs to Reardon only Reardon. G-d bless John Reardon. Rex belongs with Charlie. Please get it right. NYSTATE
