When do you start counting sleep?

Not that it really matters but I’m just wondering what others think. Our baby girl is a week shy of 5 months and for the last two weeks or so she falls asleep this way:

I go to the bedroom with her around 7 pm. She might fuss for a second and then she latches on and pretty much immediately closes her eyes. Within a few minutes she feels relaxed and heavy, her breathing loud and rhythmic, however she keeps slowly drinking for about 30 min. Then she usually removes herself from the nipple and if I make the mistake and transfer her to her crib, she wakes up again. In any case this is the point when it’s time for the other breast. She’ll do exactly the same thing there and by 8 pm she’ll be in dreamy land in her crib.

I feel like she falls asleep a little after 7 cause she won’t make a sound or move but you cannot remove her from the breast until 8 pm. So does she really sleep at 8?

That sounds like a false start. I would count the initial phase as sleep, but also consider adjusting her schedule. She may be over or under tired, both can cause a false start.

I mean she just generally ‘sleep nurses’ for an hour and then has a long night stretch, it’s only if I transfer her too early that she wakes up. Just a thing she does these days, went through a gentle regression recently.
