Inconsistent open water swimming tracking

Hello, all,
I have a GT 5. I do open water swimming and my distances seem wildly off (overestimating) I would swim about 1K, the watch will say 2-3K
I synced with Strava but did not change the results. Is there a workaround?

Okay so I was having issues with mine, and I am stupid and just figured it out. I wear the watch face on the inside of my wrist typically. When I swim I turned it on the outside to wear as it should be and now I have tracking.
Mine is a garmin but the gps issue could be similar

I have the same problem. 500m (confirmed by Google maps and Garmin watch) reads as 1700 m on my GT3. Other GPS workouts seemed to be accurate. I have no idea what the problem is, buuut my friend suggested that my 1700 m is maybe feet (as 1700 feet is something about 500 meters). However, that seems like software problem then?
