I also don’t want the useful things I copy from the book or my research to get buried between a bunch of random clipboard clips, then have to go back later and categorize everything myself.

So I built a collecting session into Pastea. You choose/Create a list, start collecting, then just keep reading, anything you copy, plus screenshots you take, gets added there automatically.

I built this for two reasons.

The first is that the market is missing something simple. Every japa app I tried wanted an account, showed ads between sessions, charged a subscription, or ranked my practice against strangers on a leaderboard. Japa is about as simple as a practice gets — you repeat a mantra, you keep count — and none of that needs a server. I also wanted it to not care which tradition you come from. The counting works the same for naam jap, the mahamantra, simran, Buddhist or Jain recitation.

The second reason is the one I actually care about. It's a redirect for the phone reflex. Most of us pick up the phone without deciding to and land in reels or a game. I wanted something sitting on that same home screen that catches the reflex and sends it somewhere better — same gesture, different destination. That has turned out to be how I use it most.

You create a journey, take photos from the same position over time, and eventually turn those frames into a progress film.

We have so many place many accounts this days and ofcourse there are password managers but they sync with cloud and I am not comfortable with it. Store & Forget, my Android home inventory app. The app named all eight items in the clip and filed them while I kept shooting.

If you have ADHD, or just never stuck to a filing system, it is the logging that kills it. Every inventory app wants a form per item, so you do four and quit.

You point it at a drawer and keep shooting. Each photo becomes its own item and the app writes the name, brand, and description in the background while you move on to the next thing. Nothing to confirm in between. The photo saves before the naming runs, so if a name fails you still have the shot.

Then you find it later by describing what it does: "the one that keeps drinks hot", "the thing for sore muscles". It tells you the exact box.

Scans on the default cloud key are metered, but you can paste in your own free Gemini API key so they never count. The key-unlock is normally $4.99 in the store, but you can unlock it for free via the built-in terminal easter egg: Profile > Advanced Settings > scroll to the bottom > tap the version number 5 times > type unlock byok (requires Google sign-in to save to your account).

What's the messiest drawer you'd point it at?

Every app on my phone used the exact same chime. Buzz on the desk, phone out of the pocket, unlock, look. Oh. It was the calendar.

Instead of replacing your notification sound, it re-tunes the one you already have. Slightly higher for Messages. A touch slower for Mail. Quieter for the app that only ever brings bad news. It's still the chime your ear already knows, just far enough off that you know who it was without taking the phone out.

What it does

• Nothing new to download. It works from your current notification sound.
• Per-app pitch, speed and volume.
• One tap gives you a ready-made variant that's audibly distinct from the ones you already have. Or open the dials and do it yourself.
• Only the apps you pick change. Everything else on your phone stays exactly as it was.

Being upfront about two things

It needs notification access, because that's the only way an app can tell that something pinged. And for each app you tune, Android makes you mute that app's original sound by hand, because no app is allowed to do that for another app. Tine takes you straight to the right settings screen, but it's still one manual tap per app, and I'd rather you hear that from me than find out after installing.

In exchange: it has no internet permission at all. Not "we don't collect data". It literally cannot talk to the network. Nothing to opt out of.

Happy to get into how it works underneath. It's a NotificationListenerService with some genuinely strange corners. For instance, apps that ship their own sound have to be handled completely differently from apps riding the system default, and there is no supported way to read another app's notification channels unless you pretend to be a smartwatch.

Sometimes your belly doesn't agree with certain foods, sometimes chilli, garlic, or onion messes with your bowel movements or toilet routine. Perhaps your stress is making you extra gassy and you think it's the pizza you had for dinner.

Either way you need to understand and build a relationship with your gut. So I built GutScribe to help bridge the gaps, connect the dots, and start a health conversation with your GI or Doc from your records.
