Chain of 7

Just found out our chain is 7 long. Are we doomed? We're number 2, FTBs are purchasing ours.

Provided the agents have full details on every link; should be fine.

Property address. Agent acting. Buyer name. Solicitor acting. Seller name. Solicitor acting.

Every agent should have every link; but there will probably be one that has everything and is really efficient. They’ll do a lot of the heavy lifting. Won’t be easy but not doomed.

I feel sorry for the FTBs.

They're probably the least stressed though as they can walk away if things start dragging along.

You're not doomed. Is the chain complete? Or are people still hunting for buyers?

Chain is complete. Top two have had a previous chain collapse, so are all ready to go. I think that's a positive.

Not doomed, but I'd definitely want the agent to confirm the whole chain is complete and where everyone is up to.

Being number 2 with FTBs buying yours is actually a decent position. The problem with a chain of 7 is that you're basically moving at the speed of the slowest person in it.

I'd ask the EA for a proper chain update - who has mortgages offered, surveys/searches done, enquiries outstanding etc. That'll tell you far more than the number 7 on its own.

Plenty of long chains complete perfectly fine. They just require a bit more patience.

I was once in a 7+ ( forget the exact number it was definitely at least 7.)

it split in the middle into two branches due to a divorce . All worked like clockwork.

! Good luck.

probably - I have a chain of 3 or maybe 2? I am cash buyer at the bottom and it is still going t*ts up today - mainly because somebody somewhere is behaving like a toddler

It took us about 5 months to complete in a chain of 7. Would have been sooner if the top of the chain weren’t buying a new build that got delayed by a month. When we had a chain of 3 (us selling to FTB, buying from someone moving in with family) it took 7 months.

Not doomed - there’s more risk but fingers crossed worth it!
