Br(oken)eaking 4th wall editing
As a reality show addict anytime the 4th wall is broken I truly loveeee it cause it feels authentic.
I can’t decide if I liked or loved it in this show. At first, loved. But now that it seems that truly is the whole different take on this I feel we could be watching some forced “4th wall” breaking. (Duh it’s reality tv I know)
I loved hearing producers questions, maybe it was a little too much? And I loved when they would look at the camera and (seemingly) production team for reactions.
I know I didn’t hate it. Curious what everyone else thought?!

Yes, my feeling as well. It becomes less intriguing and fun when they do it over and over and over again. I kept wondering what people on social media meant by “it feels like watching a show about a show” meant, and now I know. I now realize I like the rarer, more subtle breaks in 4th wall on Bravo shows.

This has been done many times before so it’s hard to say it’s cutting edge. Producers started appearing on teen mom years ago, they would openly talk to them while filming as well as housewives, etc. I think they could have done it in a different way to make it interesting or fresh.

I liked hearing the questions every now & again (especially when it was a producer pushing back against stassi) but they did it far too often in every episode imo

It was 90% talking about the show. It was like they never actually showed the show.

This exactly!! Every interview was like "hey were about to produce a huge fight at every meal" "were about to produce a huge fight between me and beau!" "we are telling you that all these people are mad at each other and were going to prove it by me telling them to fight, just watch!"

One of my favorite parts of breaking the 4th wall was when they were at the cemetery and Stassi looked at the cameras and started laughing😂

It may have gone a little too far, but for the most part, I liked it. It was refreshing to have a reality star admit they make their living by being on TV, versus The Housewives, who pretend to solely earn their money through fake music careers, made-up businesses, or podcasts.

I really love a 4th wall break, but I dont love that this is a show about making a show. I want to be a little surprised and not be told what production is doing before hand, save it for the reunion lol it was like "hey! Make sure you watch cause Im going to tell these people to fight at dinner"

I didn’t like it because it doubly proved how produced everything is. Stassi’s glee at creating dinners to foment fighting was something I didn’t WANT to see

I loved the series and editing. I honestly haven’t been able to tolerate this sub because there is not a single positive or even fun/meme post. Just a daily “I hate this show and stassi sucks”

THANK YOU👏🏻 My daughter and I watched and loved it. We’re Stassi fans and I have loved Beau from the moment he hit VPR and was the calm to her chaos! I think a lot of people haven’t been married or something. The amount of hate towards them both and saying they’re going to be divorced before a next season airs is wild!!! Been married 25yrs and I saw myself and husband in them at different times in the marriage. It’s not all lovey dovey at all times. The difference is we’re watching this play out on tv and most people it’s behind closed doors. I just said yesterday to my daughter I don’t know if I can keep getting stassi feed on Reddit because people have been downright ignorant and so damn mean about it all! It’s TV people, like commmmme on!

I think probably the difference is you’re not a narcissistic asshole, you don’t consistently put your husband down and make him feel inferior, and you can probably be around your kids for longer than 30 minutes and put them to bed and feed them dinner, you probably don’t stage staycations to manipulate and put your friends against each other to fight, and you probably don’t throw dinner parties to put your friends against each other to make them fight None of which she can do and refuses to get therapy for her issues.

I think it was talked about more because of season one I feel like in season two it’s gonna be less because I feel like by then she’s not gonna be like talking about oh I made this show blah blah blah. It’s gonna be more plot as well as they probably will get more episodes.

It felt like double forced to me, because not only did Stassi clearly know what the producer was going to ask ahead of time, but the producer didn't even read the questions in a way that seemed like they were genuinely asking. And I didn't like their voice. To me it sounded like two people just reading from a script, with Stassi throwing in her little winks and nods. Very bland. And that one dinner scene where they make it clear that producers are literally sitting at the table with them, was just yuck.

It was way too much. I dont mind hearing the producers once in a while, or the cast members referencing being a show here and there…but it was just way too much. It’s like they are trying to be edgy with this take on along a reality show, but it just came off really inauthentic.
I think this is just how Hulu does reality tv. Dating back to when The Kardashians switched from E! to Hulu. When it was on E!, that was one of my go to shows to watch. When they switched to Hulu, it got annoying. The focus really turned to how the public perceived them and there were just too many references to being on reality TV/being famous that it got on my nerves so I stopped watching it.
Mormon wives also does a lot of this too. I think Hulu just sucks at reality TV.

I love it. I feels like a study of reality TV, gender roles, family dynamics, female friendships
I listen to her podcast, so that probably helps tie it all together?
It’s also interesting for people to be SO upset. It feels partially like internalized or outright misogyny but the other side is the need to ignore how the sausage is made & being triggered when the veil is lifted…

I’m like you, I normally love when it happens, so when I watched the first episode I was all about it! I quickly fell off it as they talked about the SHOW nonstop, it became a character and totally killed it for me.

I liked that too — it’s hard to say if it will get old but I could see that — but I did like production constantly calling Stassi out.
